One of the most important technical universities in our region is the RWTH Aachen University, in Germany. This university, which is more than 150 years old, is well-known for its large number of international students and a lot of technical faculties. Every year, bonding-studierendeninitiative e. V. organizes the 'Bonding Automotive Day', an exclusive career event at the RWTH in the center of Aachen. It is the place to be for companies like DAF Trucks, as one of the largest automotive companies in the Euregion. A team of enthusiastic colleagues spoke to a large number of highly educated and motivated technical students. The students are interested in topics such as new innovations and technologies, including zero emissions, data science, platooning, and autonomous driving. In addition to technical aspects of engineering, testing, developing, and manufacturing, the students, as potential employees, are also attracted to an employer that offers opportunities for remote work, personal development and focuses on diversity and inclusion. It's always a pleasure to show the international students the size, diversity, and dynamism of the 'DAF population' as part of PACCAR. We convince them that DAF is a great place to work, and we show them, by opening the doors of the DAF XG+ 480, that the DAF truck is a great place to work, live, and sleep in. Many thanks to bonding-studierendeninitiative e. V. and Guy van Kempen, Evy Jacobs, Maroan Bouadli-Arfaoui, Anne Bressers and Maurice Klaassens #career #event #international #technical #students #WeArePACCAR

🎉 Happy 162nd birthday, Robert Bosch! 🎂 Our company founder was born on September 23, 1861, in Albeck near Ulm, Germany. He was a man of many interests from nature and agriculture to health, education, and social policy, but above all, technology. 💡 🌍 As a young precision mechanic, he moved from Ulm to New York, U.S., in 1884 to follow the progress of technology. He approached the world with a curious and open mind his entire life, embracing new ideas, like the telephone and the safety bicycle. He firmly believed that technology's true purpose was to enhance the quality of human life. To this day, we, as a company, maintain our founder’s principles and values and use them as drivers for developing our products and solutions. In the picture, you can see him on his 80th birthday with a small working model of an injection pump, which Bosch apprentices had made for him. I am pleased to share that Scania, with its inverted hierarchical structure, or what can be termed a "reverse power pyramid," has successfully instilled a sense of empowerment and motivation among its employees. This system has empowered employees to feel a sense of control, thereby boosting their drive for performance improvement and increased productivity. Alongside this enhanced efficiency, the company has maintained stringent safety standards, optimal working conditions, and standardized production processes, ensuring no harm befalls its workforce. Within the production process, each employee is entrusted with specific responsibilities within a five-person team, emphasizing the necessity of diverse experiences and skillsets for organizational advancement. Despite continuous efforts through regular inspections, challenges such as the resemblance of the production system to the chaotic portrayal in Charlie Chaplin's modern times, and discrepancies in the appearance of employees still persist. On the other hand, by prioritizing the humanization of the production process, the company endeavours to promote human values and improve communication among team members. However, it is imperative to acknowledge the significance of job diversity and the avoidance of monotony in production activities. This experience has been invaluable, and I extend my gratitude to all members of the Scania team and the professors at Saxion University of Applied Sciences for enabling this journey.
Today we visited Scania Group in Zwolle with our #Saxion/ University of Greenwich MBA-MA students.

121 TCC Talks - ft. Abhishek Karthikeyan. - My journey in the automotive world began with a background in biology. My international exchange program to Esslingen, Germany, during my UG marked my first trip abroad and opened my eyes to the vibrant world of automotive innovation in the heart of Europe. I carry the invaluable experiences and lessons with me, forever shaping my career and my love for cars. When I returned, I decided to pursue a master's degree. My focus areas were electronics, control systems of vehicles, and electrical machines. The big question was where to pursue my master's, and I narrowed it down to three options: the USA, Germany, and Sweden. I ultimately chose Sweden, specifically KTH Royal Institute of Technology, which is ranked 78th globally. KTH offered courses that perfectly aligned with my interests in electronics and controls. Moreover, Sweden's rich automotive history, with companies like Volvo and Scania having their roots there, made it a promising destination for job opportunities. Studying at KTH in Stockholm was challenging, but I adapted. I applied to various companies and landed a job at Volvo Cars, specifically in the stability team. Our work focused on electronic stability control, a crucial component in making Volvo Cars one of the safest cars globally. My role involved testing and ensuring the vehicle's safe state, especially in challenging conditions. Volvo's commitment to safety and innovation has been a tremendous learning experience. They are pioneering new electrical architecture platforms for electric vehicles and have pledged to cease producing internal combustion engines by 2030. To aspiring automobile engineers, I recommend you to focus on building a strong foundation, align your projects with your interests, and make the most of your college years. In the USA, you might earn more, but it often comes at the cost of work-life balance. In Europe, you can achieve a better balance, making it a more suitable option for the long term. - Drafted by: Varshaa Mohan for #TCCTalks. Got an interesting story to share on TCC Talks? I am pleased to announce my acceptance into the Master's program in Artificial Intelligence -- Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University (Fall 2024). This program aligns perfectly with my dedication to advancing automotive safety through automation/controls. Throughout my undergraduate education and internships in the automotive industry, I have honed my expertise in minimizing post-collision damage. My current pursuit focuses on leveraging Artificial Intelligence to develop models that proactively predict and prevent accidents altogether. Unfortunately, the cost of tuition at Carnegie Mellon University presents a significant financial hurdle for my family and me. Your contribution, however modest, would be instrumental in making this transformative education a reality. Your contribution, however modest, will significantly impact the realization of this objective. I want to help revolutionize the landscape of automotive safety and contribute meaningfully to a safer world.
