Two heads are better than one! In this case, many heads! Our Corporate Social Responsibility team has been up and running for quite some time now, and we're always looking for fresh perspectives. We've started an initiative with which members of the entire Rotterdam Marriott Hotel team can get involved and submit ideas on how we can become more sustainable. Every quarter, we will crown the person with the best idea as our Sustainability Champion. And drumrolllllll... our Q1 Sustainability Champion is Withney! 🌿🌞 Withney brought to our attention that the most effective recycling happens at the source. Making sure that in each department, with each bin, we ensure we separate our waste, instead of focusing on separation at collection points later in the trash cycle. Inspired by Withney's own town, which is meticulous in its recycling efforts, we will incorporate her idea in each of our departments. 🤝♻️ Do you have more ideas for us? We're all ears! #rotterdammarriott #GreenHospitality #SustainabilityChampion #CSR #MVO #CorporateResponsibility #SustainableTravel #serve360

🌱 Exciting News: Launch of the Vlerick Sustainability Centre 🌱 I'm thrilled to share the fantastic experience we had at the launch of the Vlerick Sustainability Center. We were privileged to listen to a captivating keynote by Gunter Pauli, who inspired us to focus on the ecosystem and innovate our business models to generate more value for society and the planet. But that wasn't all! We also had the honor of hearing from Eric Olsen, who shared invaluable advice. He urged us to: 🚀 Embrace a sense of urgency. 🌟 Find a strong sense of purpose. 😊 Maintain an unwavering sense of optimism. These words of wisdom remind us that sustainability isn't just about innovation; it's about a mindset that drives positive change. At the Vlerick Sustainability Centre, we take these words to heart as we work towards a brighter, more sustainable future. Last but not least, there was a panel with Hans De Cuyper, Line De Decker, Ann Snick and Peter Depauw. We talked about the challenges and value concerning reporting and double materiality. We delved into steward ownership, this approach places purpose before profit and challenges us to rethink the traditional notion of shareholder value. #Sustainability #Innovation #BusinessLeadership #VlerickSustainabilityCenter #livelearnleap

As we celebrate Earth Day here at Belden, we also celebrate the release of our annual ESG Report which provides updates on our progress towards the important goals we’ve set for our operations and workplace culture. While we’ve always prioritized ethical and responsible operations, we formalized our ESG program in recent years to intentionally impact the environment, our employees, customers, and communities. I am grateful to the 8,000 Belden employees around the world who have embraced this work. It is their focus and commitment that has allowed us to achieve positive results again this year. We are investing in green energy, minimizing our waste, and conserving water throughout the organization. Belden has prioritized more than 200 emission-reduction projects around the world, and as a result, we’ve seen impactful progress in our operational emissions. While I’ve highlighted environmental progress here, there are many other areas covered in this report, including employee wellness, volunteerism, DEI strategy, responsible supply chain sourcing, and more. I invite you to review this year’s ESG report which is now live on our website. https://bit.ly/49MSQGc #ESG #ESGReport #EarthDay2024 #Sustainability

Spring has sprung! 🌼 And to celebrate, today we attended the inaugural The Alnwick Garden Grow Business Club, hosted by the unstoppable Lauren St Hilaire. With a focus on sustainability and what that means for businesses large and small we heard from Kellogs about their journey to a more sustainable future (hello the new Pringles all cardboard packaging), as well as what Alnwick Garden and Lilidorei are doing to reduce their carbon footprint. The key takeaways: 🌳 Sustainable business practices are here to stay. Get on board or lose out to companies that are committed to driving sustainable change. 🌳 Making a start is better than doing nothing at all. You may not be the expert, but there are plenty of people and businesses out there who can help you with your sustainability efforts. 🌳 Energy use is the biggest factor in reducing carbon emissions. Even small businesses can play their part, armed with an energy bill, research and common sense. You could save the planet and your bills. 🌳 Beware of greenwashing. Be considerate about where you invest in environmental and sustainable schemes – in fact, talk to the Garden, who may be able to point you in the right direction. Thanks for an insightful morning, we got to meet some great individuals and businesses and we're looking forward to the next event on 18 April, focused on Wellbeing in the Workplace. Deliberative and Community Engagement | Facilitation ✨ I help local government design and deliver great community engagement ✨
Have you ever celebrated the completion of a long term strategy? I was invited back to my old stomping ground, the City of Whittlesea, to join with all the sustainability department staff of the last 10 years to do just that. It was really quite brilliant! We met at a park under the gum trees, had a few soft drinks and reflected on the excellent work so many people had contributed to and all that had been achieved. We even roasted a few marshmallows* *sidebar - are you a gentle toaster or catch on fire kind of roaster? I'm a catch on firer 😀 Anyway...nearly 12 years ago we started engaging, researching and writing the City's 10 year Sustainability Strategy. It had 206 actions - 57 short-term actions, 10 short- to medium-term actions, 12 medium-term actions, four long-term actions and 123 ongoing actions. And the results, 10 years later? * 96% achieved! 197 actions complete! * 2% delayed/issues * 2% (3 actions) not started Really incredible vision and dedication from so many people over the 10 years to have made that happen. I was honoured to be invited back and part of the celebration - thanks to LinkedIn, Erica could track so many of us down 💚 Special thanks to Amanda Dodd - impressive leadership to make time to celebrate the achievements and to include us all. #sustainability #celebration #strategy #leadership
