Corporate board service is a topic of great interest among leaders, particularly women looking to break into that space. At Washington Business Journal's Women on Boards event, Rosie Allen-Herring, MBA, Linda Rabbitt, and Debra Silimeo shared tips from the trenches on their own experience with board service. Their top tips for pursuing a Board seat:   1) Get clear on your reason to join a board. A question has been challenged to some of us who joined a Women leadership workshop facilitated by United Women's Council. This afternoon we were graced by leadership insights from Dr. Purity, and she poised one mind throbbing question where she asked? Who do you tell yourself you are? This hit home— The little conversations we tell ourselves everyday matters. It matters in building who we are, what we become , what we tell others and why we should be followed. Leadership is not about position, it’s about influence, how you influence others and yourself positively. #leadershipdevelopment

At the Women in Leadership conference last Friday, one of the questions asked was, "What advice would you give your younger self?" My initial response was honest and sincere. However, given the chance to revisit the stage, I would offer additional advice, which I plan to pass on to my daughter and son when needed. ⭐ Your reputation is invaluable; it takes time to build and maintain, but it can be changed in an instant. ⭐ Time flies by quickly, so cherish every moment and take risks. ⭐ Always be kind, as you never know what others are going through. ⭐ Celebrate the successes of others. ⭐ Your network plays a crucial role in your success.
