As the Breedr team is heading to Cattle Con National Cattlemen's Beef Association this week it seems a good time to reflect on the last 18 months; moving the family from the UK to Texas, working with some of the most exciting supply chains in the industry, and sadly losing my dad at 91 last Easter. It was my father Guy Wheal who inspired me to build Breedr; a company that at its heart supports ranchers and the meat supply chain to produce better beef more efficiently, using data to prove the enhanced quality. My dad always said that you make your own luck through hard work, being good to others and learning from your mistakes. We built Breedr to support and empower ranchers, cow calf, beef on dairy, backgrounders, feedyards, packers and even retailers to produce exceptional beef in a sustainable, life-enriching way. So to the Pioneers of American Beef who have for centuries innovated to build new businesses; thank you for your support on our journey in the US. Extraordinarily happy sweet potato slips developing. I need to get more sliced off the main tubers and potted, but some seriously good root systems developing. YEARLING SEGMENT/ STOCKER SEGMENT This segment adds weight to weaned calves prior to going to feedlot for finishing prior to slaughter. The calves are 18-20 months of age by the time they go into the feedlot. Ask any purebred breeder which one is better and you’ll likely get a prideful one-sided answer.   Chances are on your drive to work you can spot your local cattle rancher demonstrating a lesson that the corporate workplace can learn from. The “Baldy”! The outcome of joining these two breeds that is perhaps the most economically profitable and highest quality beef raised in the US.   All this is achieved by setting pride aside and letting both leaders join together and letting heterosis take over. BUY A WHOLE BEEF!!! Beef is currently about $8/lb and is projected to increase about 15% in 2024. If that makes you nervous, let us help! Buying a whole beef now will secure your meat supply for the next year at today’s price. We have cattle on feed now that are scheduled to be processed in the coming weeks. Here’s how it works: 1- Email us to let us know you’re interested in purchasing a whole animal. 2- You will select a steer out of the animals we have available. We will calculate your cost on a cash basis price (right now we are approximating $1.85/lb based on the current CME rate). We will also calculate a projected cost for your processing. 3- You pay a $500 deposit towards the projected total to hold your animal. The remainder will be due at the time we pick up the beef from the processor and confirm the processing cost. 4- We help you customize your cut sheet to suit your needs! Do you want brats? More steaks than roasts? 80/20 ground beef or 90/10? 5- We will pickup the beef from the processor and bring it back to our ranch. If you are ready for the beef then, we can arrange the best delivery option for you. If you don’t have space for a whole beef at home, we can store it for $10/month and deliver it to you on whatever basis works best for you (monthly/quarterly). 6- You enjoy a beef supply that will last you through 2024!
