Innovative software architect, prompt engineer, and GenAI enthusiast. I balance business needs with technical excellence for optimal solutions.

On a ShanghaiTech server, researchers found what appeared to be an accidentally leaked training data set of images of US naval vessels. Before we jump to assumptions about the provenance of this data set, here's a quote from the paper: "We cannot say with certainty whether this database was developed by a researcher at a university interested in testing new tools for ship detection, or a navy computer scientist as part of a military project, or even an undergraduate student looking to impress potential employers in the defense sector. That all three of those profiles could fit as creators of this database is a testament to the increasing availability of AI intelligence tools outside of traditional military domains and the reduced skill barrier to using them." This training set would be appropriate for computer vision models, not generative AI (the latter being my main focus), but that makes sense as machine learning is about classification. However, I think if one can create an accurate 3D model of the target, we could go beyond satellite imagery and start creating powerful synthetic data which could expand the model's capabilities. There's a reason the military is keen on expanding their AI prowess. #AI #ComputerVision #CNNs

Researchers found a training dataset left on Roboflow, called Zhousidun (Chinese: "Zeus' Shield", their name for the Aegis Combat system), containing US warship images with bounding boxes around radar systems. This paper assesses the utility of the dataset
