We often talk about mental health awareness, but on #WorldMentalHealthDay what we really need is action. As a parent I have witnessed first hand the lack of support available for our young people in particular. Schools are barely equipped to understand how to help, and services such as CAMHS are unable to provide thousands of children and young people with the help they so desperately need - even in the most serious situations. Waiting lists are either inaccessible, or so long that the help never arrives. Earlier this year, after being rejected by CAMHS, we were helped by a wonderful local charity who were able to provide counselling. We waited 8 months for help; we were lucky, but so many others fall through the cracks of a broken system. How do we solve the problem? I don't know, but I know that 'awareness' isn't enough, so be aware, but also take action! If you are able to, donate to charities that provide mental health support and services, sign petitions to urge the government to overhaul the lack of services we have and deliver on broken promises. Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay2023 World Mental Health Day raises #awareness of mental health problems, but despite this growing awareness, many people still don't have access to the support they need. What can you do? 💬 Talk about mental health The more we talk about it, the less stigma there is around it. 📍 Check in on the people around you Ask them how they're doing, and really listen to their answer. 🫱 Encourage people to seek help if they need it There are many resources available with Mind - sign their petition calling for reform to the Mental Health Act, donate to a mental health charity, or sign up for a fundraising challenge. 📕 https://lnkd.in/dSxu45e
