What does it take to do your best work and build an engaged workforce? That’s one of the questions that Centre for Social Impact Swinburne University of Technology investigated recently in a powerful study on ONE GOOD* DAY’s client outcomes and organisational design. The team, led by Research Fellow Dr. Aurora Elmes, took an in-depth look at One Good* Day client outcomes, organisational design and team experience – and the findings are incredibly fascinating! Overall, clients reported that Recovery Coaching generated incremental positive changes, particularly relating to: 👉Building strategies and feeling more able to get through difficult times  👉Benefiting from Recovery Coaches’ support to access services such as cleaning, gardening, occupational therapy or respite, and  👉A feeling of making progress, regaining more independence and working toward goals. Similarly, the unique way our organisation is designed has contributed to positive outcomes for both the team and the business itself, via 6 key areas: 👉A core focus on well-being design  👉A ‘pod structure’ for team support 👉Ready workforce with lived experience 👉Technology capability 👉Focused market and service 👉Practical guidance and training. "Golden threads", to anyone familiar with the NHS Leadership Academy might cause an involuntary eye roll. We were encouraged to sprinkle them explicitly through our reflective writing, a practice that often made our work feel forced and unnatural. However, with time, these principles have become an everyday consideration. They are based on: ⭐ Equality, Diversity and Inclusion: to proactively implement these principles within my leadership to ensure the access to, and delivery of, truly equitable care. ✨Patient-centric Quality: to remain in tune with how the quality of care provided to patients, service users and their careers’, matches what we would want for those we love. 🌟 Service Improvement and Sustainability: to improve and sustain relevant services and processes to enhance patient care. While these ideals mean nothing without well thought out planning, proper financing, and effective leadership (amongst other things), centering my thinking on them helps structure my decisions — a crucial step towards a more patient-centered, equitable approach. Facilitating with a focus on “the art of deliberation and agreement” includes the ability to get participants to (briefly) 1. Carefully consider current situation, different interests, perspectives, requirements, ideas and opinions. 2. Be sensitive to the experiences of others. 3. Show empathy for the feelings and needs of others. 4. Be open to negotiations, balances, develop win-win solutions, innovations, compromises to get ahead, solve problems or take advantage of opportunities. 5. Respect and consider different points of view and values. 6. Strive for the participants themselves to reach an agreement that satisfies all parties involved in different ways. It has been and is a successful culture and leadership, which has contributed to for example the Nordic countries being in the top ten in most comparisons between countries in welfare, prosperity, well-being, innovation, creativity, happiness and more.
