As we close out Pride Month and continue into July, The Cultivating Change Foundation Board of Directors reaffirms our commitment to pursuing the Foundation's mission of valuing and elevating LGBTQ+ agriculturists. We do so to encourage organizations in the industry to renew their commitment to embracing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts and remain dedicated to providing safe workplaces where all people can show up and thrive as their true authentic selves. Continue to make steps forward, not backwards in cultivating change and creating a better future for everyone in agriculture. As we celebrate Pride Month, it’s essential to distinguish genuine allyship from mere rainbow washing. The conversation around ‘rainbow-washing’—where companies use Pride symbols without meaningful action—raises important questions about the intersection of commerce and social causes in the workplace. 🏳️🌈 Authentic Allyship: How do we distinguish between allyship and marketing tactics? It’s crucial for organizations to move beyond just changing logos and to actively contributing to LGBTQ+ causes and support their employees. ❌ Symbolic Gestures: Visible support, like rainbow displays, can bring joy and a sense of inclusion. However, we must consider the impact and intentions behind these gestures. Are they contributing to real change or just surface-level? 🤝 Genuine Support: Let’s remember the ongoing struggles of the LGBTQ+ community. True support extends beyond Pride Month and involves continuous efforts to promote equality and fight discrimination. 💼 Corporate Responsibility: Avoiding rainbow washing also means defending LGBTQ+ equality and financially supporting community non-profits. Let’s commit to real change and support for the LGBTQ+ community, not just during Pride Month, but all year round. Pride Month may be over, but our commitment to equality never ends. 🌈 As we transition from June's celebrations, let's remember that Pride is a daily practice, not just a yearly event. The fight for diversity, equity, and inclusion for every segment of the LGBTQ+ community continues 365 days a year. It's crucial to recognize that LGBTQ+ individuals face not only the challenges common to all marginalized communities, but also additional burdens: • Homophobia and transphobia • Lack of bodily autonomy • Higher rates of homelessness • Underemployment • Mental health challenges • Healthcare disparities These issues don't disappear when the rainbow flags come down. As business leaders and community members, we must maintain our focus on creating inclusive workplaces and advocating for equitable policies year-round. Let's carry the spirit of Pride into every month, every week, every day. How are you fostering inclusivity in your organization beyond June? Share your ongoing initiatives and ideas below. #PrideIsEveryday #Inclusion #LGBTQ #DiversityAndInclusion #BusinessLeadership

Have you ever heard of "rainbow washing"? Rainbow washing is when brands and organizations make a show of discussing LGBTQ+-related topics, usually only during Pride Month, and without making meaningful change in their workplaces to actually support the LGBTQ+ community. It's performative, not real allyship. So how can we make sure we aren't rainbow washing our workplaces? First, we should focus LGBTQ+ issues all year long, not just during Pride Month. Second, we must keep in mind that the LGBTQ+ community is very diverse, which means the types of issues and types of support they might require are also diverse. Finally, and most importantly, we must get feedback from members of the LGBTQ+ community in our workplaces on what support they are lacking, and then make actual change. This includes changes to recruiting and hiring, as well as the actual work environment. And we must get continual feedback from them to make sure that they are included in our workplaces. This is your annual reminder that LGBTQ+ people exist all year, not just in June! That’s why at Fearless Foundry, our commitment to the community doesn’t start or end this month— it’s active 365 days a year. Not only do we hire LGBTQ+ people, we also prioritize LGBTQ+ inclusion in all of our work. This happens in a few different ways: 1. We prioritize underrepresented founders who don’t otherwise have access to our resources, like our Figure 8 community. This means that the group benefits from their genius, and they get to learn and grow alongside others who are are also building their businesses. 2. Most of our give-back clients are LGBTQ+-founded brands. This is because we know these founders are less likely to have access to grants, investments, and other capital that most businesses need to start on solid ground and be successful. 3. As a majority LGBTQ+ company, we are always coaching clients on inclusion— from language and imagery to outreach and marketing strategies, ensuring that their practices don’t just sound inclusive but actually are inclusive. What are you doing to support the LGBTQ+ community this month? The time is almost upon us again — #Pride season! 🌈 But did you know that a Pride campaign can damage your brand image if you don't do it right? 🤔 Without concrete actions to support the LGBTQ+ community, you might be guilty of rainbow washing. Rainbow washing is when brands use LGBTQ+ themes and imagery in marketing with no genuine, year-round efforts to promote inclusivity. It misleads consumers into thinking you're an ally when in reality, you're just capitalising on the Pride hype. Instead of jumping on the rainbow bandwagon, focus on consistent actions first: donate to LGBTQ+ organisations, participate in Pride events, and craft inclusive workplace policies. Consumers will appreciate your authentic allyship more than colourful packaging. Avoid rainbow washing and learn how to launch a successful, ethical Pride campaign from real-life examples on our blog. 🏳️🌈🫶 🌐 https://lnkd.in/e4V3dG3B #marketing #ethicalmarketing #rainbowwashing

Building a diverse team can help nonprofits understand the varied needs of the communities they serve. But diversity alone isn't enough. Creating a culture of inclusion and belonging allows everyone to bring their unique perspectives and voices to the table. For LGBTQ+ professionals, finding this kind of culture can be challenging. The Deloitte Global 2023 LGBT+ Inclusion @ Work report found that 42% of LGBTQ+ employees experience non-inclusive behaviors at work. What's more, a third are looking to move to a more LGBTQ+ inclusive employer. So, what can you do as a manager or employee to help everyone feel like they belong? Here are five everyday actions that can make a difference. https://lnkd.in/gkET8YXU

2wAs a rural American it makes me so sad that the implicit understanding of our rural places is that they are not safe or welcoming for LGBTQ+ folk, or people of different races, nationalities, or cultures, or religions which are not Christian or not the local majority’s preferred kind of Christian.
