The impact of developing infrastructure on sustainability goals One of the challenges in reaching sustainability goals alongside cost is the infrastructure needed to support measures. It is not enough to develop innovative ways to harness green energy, the UK needs to change supply lines and develop battery storage to ensure that energy can be distributed and stored. Whilst it seems technology has worked out how to generate renewable energy either through measures such as ground source heat pumps, solar panels or biomass boilers, the infrastructures haven’t quite caught up.... #sustainability #netzero #RenewableEnergy

One of the main reasons we've relied so heavily on fossil fuels is because they are so easy to store and transport. How can we make it as easy to transport renewable energy? Found Energy believes it's found the answer – in aluminium. Using scrap aluminium, the company has created modular fuel packs that could help to decarbonise emissions-heavy industries, like maritime shipping, long-haul trucking, and synthetic fertiliser production. #industry #renewable #green #energy

New article published! 🥳 Our study titled “State-of-the-art value chain roadmap for sustainable end-of-life wind turbine blades” has been published in Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews. The study presents a full state-of-the-art value chain roadmap for end-of-life wind turbine blades that consolidates all the process steps and technologies involved for six potential end-of-life routes for blades. The roadmap highlights that there are several technologies that can effectively aid the recycling of blades, but that these need further development and scaling. This includes the design and development of full industrial systems to support this including sectioning, pre-processing, transport optimization and material refinement. The study is a part of the #DecomBlades research project and funded by the Danish Innovation Fund. A big thank you to my supervisor and co-author Erik Skov Madsen as well as all the #DecomBlades partners. You can download the article for free until the 11th of February through the link. I hope you will give it a read! https://lnkd.in/dv4iANRu

Transport cost differ among the different types of energy carriers. Transport costs have everything to do with the energy density per volume and weight. The lower the energy density the higher the transport cost. The lowest transport cost is for liquids such as oil, 5 to 10 times more expensive is gas transport. Electricity transport is again 5 to 10 times more expensive than gas transport. And the most expensive is transporting hot water by pipeline. On the other hand, the transport capacity is the highest when transporting a liquid and the lowest for hot water transport. Therefore, an economic energy transport system will have the same characteristics in a fossil and a renewable energy system. Read more about energy transport cost and capacities in the book ‘Green Energy for All, how hydrogen and electricity carry our future’. https://lnkd.in/eJ9Xxk-n Dii Desert Energy / Desertec3.0, African Hydrogen Partnership (AHP), International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Hydrogen Europe, KWR Water Research Institute, Delft University of Technology, Kees van der Leun, Jorgo Chatzimarkakis, Frank Wouters, Cornelius Matthes, Els van der Roest, Zofia Lukszo, Willem Hazenberg (Stork) MBA EUR ING RI, Samir RACHIDI, Tomasz A.
