Does your Streaming TV partner only use 1 DSP to deliver results. This should be one of the first questions you ask when buying OTT from a company. According to Magnite - SPO Means Fewer Partners and Greater Impact. With SPO in place, global and US buyers work with an average of 4-6 partners and consolidation efforts are proving to be effective in delivering better outcomes, including reduced tech fees, duplicative supply, and lowered carbon emissions. #ctv #ott #supplypathoptimization https://lnkd.in/gutqq4BG

The Media Supply Chain We’ve created many new and wonderful responses to the growth we’ve experienced over the last two decades. Moving from tape to digital, spreadsheets to orchestration, on-prem to cloud (and sometimes back again!), linear to VOD, into OTT, streaming, SVOD, IP delivery, SD to HD, to 4k and UHD, 8K, and now AI!……. extraordinary changes. We have one all encompassing phrase for it all - The Media Supply Chain. In my 25 years experience no two media companies are alike. Every innovation, or issue to solve, brings an education that was unexpected and yet ultimately rewarding. We consolidate and centralise for efficiency but the beast keeps leaking out the sides. New technology takes distinct tangents in specific areas of our creation, supply and delivery. Each attempt to create efficiency is matched with an escaping component that doesn’t quite want to play ball, so this can only ever be a line that we will always cross. The tangents represent necessary progress, growth and increased revenue, as long as they are managed well. Media companies have moved entire operations to the cloud, under the banner of efficiency, with the understanding that this might be the last great centralisation. Vendors (content and technical) are still part of the chain we cannot quite control, as are creators, ideators, and distributors. Each new insert into the chain creates a disparate set of conjoined processes. FOMO plays its part, and the capex/opex spend weighs heavy when we see, for one reason or another, that we might have backed the wrong cloud provider….where is the poly-cloud offering that would create true competition? (that’s another post entirely!!!) We now must consider our carbon footprint, if we are to have a media supply chain that lives happily with the environment. The understanding and measuring of data has never been more important, but has never been less consolidated. What’s the answer to this one? Start somewhere, anywhere, but start. The clock is ticking. That is the simplest piece of advice I think anyone can take on board. Various elements of data observability are being developed. If you want guidance on how to find the right answer for both the physical and digital requirements of scope 1,2 and 3, ask for help.
