After watching this report, I'm compelled to ask: why has the UK government let this happen? Now that we're informed, what will be our response? The Urban Dream Chasers (TUDC) believes incorporating emotional and social intelligence methods into all sectors of the education system (teachers, students, parents, and the government at all levels) can significantly reduce the number of exclusions taking place throughout the nation. We urge you to join us. Let's turn talk into action. Together, we can make a difference. DM or email us at hello@tudc.education #StandTogether #MakeChangeNow #EmoSoEducation #EmoSo

From the archives... Parental input is not desired at most school board meetings and their attempts to influence education policy in their local district will be strongly resisted because the teacher’s unions hold overwhelming sway over teacher and administrators (read "Standing Up To Goliath" by Rebecca Friedrichs). #HomeEducation #homeschool #homeschooling #education #GetOutNow #PublicSchoolExit #ChristianEducation #EdcuationIsDiscipleship #ChristianHomeschoolRevolution https://lnkd.in/g5humTQ

"Instead of preparing everyone for college in the name of democracy and equality of opportunity, schools should instill in students respect for all forms of honest work done well. Preparation for the world of work, parenting and civil responsibility is essential for all students." How Long Do Community Insiders and Outsiders Stay in Teaching (In-District)? Local ties matter when it comes to longevity within a school. At least according to Andy Brantlinger (University of Maryland), Ashley Anne Grant (Johns Hopkins University), and Laurel Cooley (Brooklyn College) in this American Journal of Education article, where they report on their study of teacher retention in New York City schools. See link to study in comments. They found that teachers who were graduates of New York City high schools had significantly higher rates of retention in the district than community outsiders as did teachers who engaged in local practicums. Looking at the race and age of those recruited, African-American community insiders who entered teaching at 28 years or older had particularly high odds of long-term retention in New York City schools. I believe that this can be for a host of reasons - deeper commitment to the community, a greater awareness of teaching conditions, etc. Has your school studied which teachers stay and which go? Not a dumb question to ask if we want to retain teachers who leave. #teachingandlearning #urbaneducation #classroom Norman Eng, Ed.D Michelle Ortiz, Sarah Klena Gif: Tenor

"In the last few years as districts in New Jersey and the United States have had increasing difficulty finding qualified teachers, one argument many people in education make is the teacher shortage is a casualty of the 'culture wars,' i.e., conservative criticisms of teacher unions, individual teachers, and curriculum."
