California Lawmakers Greenlight Cannabis Cafe Bill Months after the governor vetoed an earlier proposal, California lawmakers have now approved a bill allowing cannabis cafes in the state. Sponsored by Assemblymember Matt Haney, the legislation permits on-site marijuana consumption at licensed businesses, which can also serve non-cannabis food and non-alcoholic drinks and host live events with local government permission. Governor Gavin Newsom had previously vetoed a similar bill citing concerns about workplace protections, but Haney and supporters have revised the legislation to address these worries. They argue that supporting legal small businesses is crucial in curbing the thriving illicit market while bolstering the struggling legal cannabis industry. Why do I do what I do? Roughly this time last year, the FSA accepted my public interest disclosure complaint against their handling of novel foods. Since then, lots of things have happened, or come to light, and my opinion of it all has undoubtedly evolved, as has my approach that I hope will lead to my end goal. Last year, my agenda was to highlight the unfairness in the novel food process for CBD products, and then get certain regulatory authorities to accept and remedy that situation. Now though, my agenda has been simplified. All I want is a conversation on cannabis, which includes the public, and looks just as much at the management of prohibition as it does at why we're still subject to it. Past that point, should it happen of course, my opinion has as much weight as anyone else's. Whether I want decrim, legalisation, or prohibition to still stand is by the by, what really matters is that the public gets to voice its opinion. But if we do get to that point, it'd be time for the government to come clean. That means providing information on hidden agreements, the names of political managers, and explanations on why some of those managers seem to have profited from prohibition whilst people are still jailed and criminalised. They would also have to detail how a good chunk of academics in the UK have been used to create and maintain the Skunk narrative, and how every politician is coached on how to use that narrative to deflect any attempt to have a conversation about cannabis. There's something else that should be discussed, and that relates to the police. Did you notice recently that some Police and Crime Commissioners suggested that cannabis is as dangerous as heroin and crack cocaine, and should be classed as such? Below is a screenshot of a comment made to me by Alison Hernandez, who doesn't want to talk about decriminalisation or legalisation, but she also indicates that her views are held by the majority of Conservative PCCs. Funny how they get to have an opinion, but no one else can have one, right?

California Assembly Approves Bill for Cannabis Cafés: A Step Forward for Social Consumption 🌿☕ In a decisive move, the California Assembly has voted 64-9 in favor of allowing cannabis cafés in the state. This legislation not only permits on-site cannabis consumption but also opens doors for non-cannabis products to be enjoyed within these spaces. Assembly member Matt Haney emphasizes the economic and social benefits, advocating for inclusive spaces where legal cannabis and everyday activities like coffee, snacks, and entertainment coexist. While supporters see this as a lifeline for struggling legal cannabis retailers and a platform for arts and entertainment, health-related industry groups express concerns about potential worker exposure to toxic chemicals. The debate continues, shaping the future landscape of cannabis consumption in California. #CannabisCafés #LegislationUpdate #SocialConsumption

New York is cracking down on illegal "weed bodegas" 🌲💨 that have undermined the state's pioneering cannabis industry. In a candid interview, Chris Alexander, Executive Director of the Office of Cannabis Management, discusses the challenges of shutting down unlicensed shops while prioritizing equity and public health. Despite frustrations, Alexander is proud of New York's diverse legal market and commitment to inclusivity. With over 100 new licenses issued, the state is making progress, but closing illicit stores remains an uphill battle 🥾⬆️. Alexander hopes updated legislation will expedite the process, ensuring a level playing field for entrepreneurs who follow the rules. As the legal market matures, the focus remains on providing safe, tested products while creating opportunities for those impacted by the War on Drugs. The rollout may be slower than desired, but New York is paving the way for an equitable cannabis industry. 🌿✊ Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gRWjMWEF For more cannabis related info subscribe to GrazzHopper today! https://lnkd.in/gnGwXz3D #CannabisEquity #LegalWeed

Husband & Father | Director of Operations @ NYS Department of Health | Leader | Public Speaker | Driving change, inspiring minds.
I’ve been speaking out on this this issue for several months now. Last week, I had the privilege to speak out yet again at another Rally, supported by NYS Assembly Member Jenifer Rajkumar, Tom Harris, President of the Times Square Alliance, Gerald Scupp, Vice President of The Garment District Alliance, and Executives from The Schubert Organization. As recreational marijuana use was decriminalized in New York, many people were hopeful that it would lead to a fair and regulated cannabis industry. Unfortunately, unlicensed cannabis shops have been proliferating across the city, preying on black and brown communities and even marketing their products to children. With over 35,000 unlicensed shops in existence, it's clear that the Office of Cannabis Management's rollout has been a failure. That's why we're calling on Governor Hochul to include Assembly Bill A8428A - the SmokeOut Act - in the State Budget. This bill would permit local municipalities to enforce licensure requirements for retail dispensaries and shut down retail locations that sell cannabis without a license. This is an urgent health and safety issue, as unregulated cannabis is being trafficked into our communities and can be laced with dangerous substances like lead, E.coli, and even fentanyl. Join me in calling on Governor Hochul to include this important legislation in the state budget and give communities the tools they need to put an end to these illegal shops that have a direct negative impact on our communities and the state's economy. Let's work together to create a fair and safe cannabis industry in New York. #legal #cannabis #newyorkstate
