Dan Rutherford is a leading expert on cutting planet-heating emissions from global shipping and #aviation at The International Council on Clean Transportation. In a recent blog, he outlined what actions have been taken since the International Civil Aviation Organization committed to achieving net-zero emissions two years ago + recommends policies to shift airlines to a Paris-compliant pathway. Find out how its going and hear more from Dan in the video below ⤵ https://lnkd.in/gXfxaXMQ

Aviation along with some other sectors such as shipping and steel are seen as especially hard to decarbonise, or hard-to-abate. But there is some promising progress, both in terms of technical advancements and new regulatory frameworks. How to make aviation fossil-free.....

We need urgent positive, not punitive, action from governments, committing to adopt policies that will generate maximum SAF production, everywhere. #Airlines stand ready with open arms to catch the resulting SAF production, because we stand united in our industry, in our value chain, and with ICAO Member States in our common goal of delivering sustainable aviation by 2050. Apart from the airlines standing ready with open arms, they need to either invest in or support projects under development to produce SAF. It will be a huge step if they stop buying cheap and questionable REDD+ carbon credits and commit to buying high-quality carbon credits that are supporting and can be used to finance SAF production. We are developing large-scale projects to produce biofuels (SAF included) from sustainable biomass and we found that tech companies are more willing than airlines to prepaid for high-quality/value carbon credits from these projects than the airlines. The flying public needs to step up as well and start off-setting the carbon footprints of their flights to help finance the transition to SAF. It cannot be left to just the airlines to carry the burden, especially if/when people are shouting and demanding the abolishment of the use of fossil fuels.

The real problem in aviation is that most of airlines are managed by absolute amateurs without any idea about business .. They destroy tremendous amounts of fuel.. That's why we have problems with climate. And they will never ask real professionals on what to correct.. And it's impossible to understand why they are still receives credits https://lnkd.in/dv-mKJpG #airlines #aviation

Today the European Parliament has been introduced to #clean #aviation, a growing and dynamic industry which has considerable economic and societal #benefits. H55 wholeheartedly welcomes supporting the TRAN committee in providing our insights into the #challenges and #opportunities associated with bringing to the market clean aviation solutions. The technological and economic paradigms of #airtransportation are changing, and clean air transportation will undoubtedly become an important driver for economic growth and job creation. Europe has a #competitiveadvantage in aviation, and industry and governments need to continue to work together to leverage these new opportunities to ensure that Europe’s aviation leadership position remains solid. We look forward to working with General Aviation Manufacturers Association and member states in fostering #european #innovation to reach #netzero emissions by 2050!

Banning private jets, air miles, and 'bullshit' flights. One line to take is frequent fliers contribute most to the development of zero-emission aviation. But maybe industry would do better not to comment and see if policy-makers pick up on any of the ideas. With just 1pc responsible for half of aviation emissions, Stay Grounded's campaign does expertly position the debate in terms of equality and wasteful use of finite resources. #aviation #emissions #jetfuel https://lnkd.in/eithjTkw https://lnkd.in/ewKJpMts
