Let's dive into the data: According to recent research, Westchester County relies heavily on Westchester Medical Center as the region's sole Level 1 Trauma Center. While this center undoubtedly provides critical care services, questions arise about its capacity to effectively serve the entire population of our county and neighboring regions. 🏥 Consider this: With a population of nearly 1 million residents in Westchester County alone, along with the influx of visitors and commuters, the demand for trauma care services is substantial. Factor in the geographic spread of our communities, and accessibility becomes a pressing concern. 🌟 It's not just about numbers; it's about access to timely and high-quality care when every second counts. Many youth need more than what outpatient services can offer, and others need the right "step down" service following discharge from inpatient and other higher levels of care. That's where intermediate services come in! This new CHDI report offers recommendations for improving center-based intermediate levels of care. Improving access and quality at intermediate levels of care will help youth and families, and improve overall system functioning. The AHRQ Academy, which aims to promote and support the integration of behavioral health into primary and ambulatory care settings, has released a new topic brief to help primary care clinicians deliver low-threshold treatment for patients with opioid use disorder (OUD). Low-threshold treatment emphasizes removing the barriers common to conventional OUD treatment and prioritizes "medication first" through prescribing buprenorphine. The topic brief notes that caring for patients with OUD is a natural fit for primary care and its fundamental strengths: respect, long-term clinical relationships, support, and a focus on whole-person care. #PrimaryCare https://lnkd.in/eiX56Wwb
