Important conversation coming up top of the hour, On the road to systems change, Every stakeholder will be needed. Join us. Clergy will be joining us to share their views on partnering in mental health crisis intervention. We welcome Reverand Ronald Sparks, Rabbi Marc Kline & Reverand Chris Fraley. Heather Simms, Deputy Director of Peer Advocacy and Community Initiatives will also be joining us from Collaborative Support Programs of NJ as we return with previous guests Dr. Olivia Johnson from Blue Wall Institute & Dr. Calvin Chatlos from Rutgers University. We will shine the light on preferred standards of care when an individual is observed in a state of ‘hyper-religiosity’ during a mental health crisis. Did you know there is a V code in the DSM as of 1994 "Religious or Spiritual Problem": V62.89 that calls for religious or spiritual therapeutic support to be included in patient care? Did you know the V code is often ignored in psychiatric care? Join us to hear what our experts have to say about this and how we can include clergy in mental health crisis intervention support. Our moderator is Janet Werner, President, U Have My Word LLC. We are bridging the gap by bringing together religious & spiritual leaders into the conversation on the spiritual part of mental health within the western based medical model. This event on Oct 17 will be followed by a series of action steps that engage psychiatrists & other MDs with clergy & lived experiencers. We welcome religious & spiritual leaders from around the globe to engage in this bridge building that supports folks during a spiritual emergency and prevents hospitalization & forced drugging while offering more life-giving alternatives. https://fb.me/e/yXyt4UdnU

In my upcoming book, I discuss the fulcrum of human need--having a purpose. Without a purpose, finding the drive to meet other essential needs such as food and shelter can be difficult. Maintaining the basic needs of life over time is even more challenging. A life worth living provides energy to meet basic needs alongside our higher purpose. Losing purpose may be the greatest indicator of a slip into despair. If you have started to struggle with your purpose or need support with your mental health in general, I would love to walk with you in that journey. I'm Laurel Hurst, integrative psychiatric nurse practitioner and developer of Groove Therapy. My primary goal is to help my patients feel safe, seen, and heard on their path to recovery. If you don't want to continue to walk your mental health journey alone, integrative psychiatric care may be supportive for you. I am now accepting new patients and would love to connect with you. If it feels supportive for you, take a moment today to visit the comments or my bio to book your first appointment, and let's create a recovery journey where you don't feel alone. #PsychiatricNursePractitioner #IntegrativeHealth #IntegrativeMedicine #AcceptingNewPatients #MentalHealthAwareness

Behavioral and mental health issues aren’t limited to adults – children are also affected by them. Did you know that 1 in 5 children experience mental health issues, but only 20% receive the comprehensive treatment they need? One of the reasons for this is that nationally there are not enough pediatric psychologists and psychiatrists to meet the need. The problem is even worse in underprivileged communities. Mental health issues are rampant, but access to mental health care is even more limited. By partnering with the REACH Institue, we are increasing the ability to diagnose and treat mental health issues through training our primary care providers. The REACH Institute provides training and ongoing coaching programs led by national leaders in child psychiatry and psychology who deliver the best evidence-based therapies in order to better diagnose, treat and manage child and adult mental health issues. At Novant Health Foundation, we're on a mission to engage and connect philanthropic partners to Novant Health programs and initiatives that save lives and improve the health of the communities we serve, like the REACH Institute. Interested in supporting our efforts to improve behavioral and mental health care for all? Foundations for Perinatal Mental Health Screening with Black Birthing Persons Tuesday, July 23 @12:00pm – 3:00pm on Zoom Black birthing persons are more likely to develop perinatal depression and anxiety, yet less likely to receive quality, responsive care. This training will explore Black perinatal mental health and the impacts of stigma, trauma, and care inequities on access to support and treatment. To improve health outcomes and mitigate harm, we will identify barriers to effective assessment prominent among Black moms and birthing persons and learn to apply strategies for screening that are trauma-informed and culturally responsive. For licensed care providers such as social workers, community health workers, counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, nurses, doulas, peer recovery supporters, and chemical dependency counselors, this session has been approved for 3 CEs. Register here: https://loom.ly/E2DbKzc #POEMRise #BMMHWeek #blackmomsmatter #maternalmentalhealth #mentalhealthscreening

On our final installment for Mental Health Awareness Month, Liz speaks with, Dr. Gaël SCHMITZ Kennedy, a child and adolescent psychiatrist in Bordeaux, France. Gaël specializes in adolescent care, managing severe cases in a closed unit and overseeing two mini-units, including one for intensive care. He is nearing the completion of his family therapy training and is working to establish a family therapy unit at his hospital to provide accessible care to all, regardless of financial means. In this episode, Liz and Gaël discuss how the pandemic changed mental healthcare access, the surge in mental health issues among adolescents, and how healthcare systems have adapted to these unprecedented challenges. As prevention plays a significant role, Gaël shares insights on why prevention is essential for developing adolescent coping skills, promoting growth, and ensuring they become functioning and successful adults. Of course, we can’t discuss child and adolescent mental health without discussing the impact of social media and how it has changed the landscape of adolescent mental health, leading to increased anxiety and unique challenges that no generation has faced before. Lastly, they discuss the significance of family therapy, discussing how reshaping family dynamics can enhance communication, connectivity, and the overall strength of the family unit. https://lnkd.in/eTDf6CJN . . . #MentalHealthAwareness #ChildYouthMentalHealth #TeenageSuicide

It is time for PWLE (People With Lived Experience) in Mental Health to speak at Psychiatric Conferences about stigma, instead of MH professionals. "The importance of recognising the key role PWLEs can play in efforts to reduce stigma and discrimination was highlighted, and how they can be appropriately supported to contribute and have their experiential expertise recognised." "An important theme in our findings was that PWLEs need to be provided opportunities for meaningful involvement in efforts to reduce stigma and discrimination. The role of PWLEs in anti-stigma activities has to be appropriately supported, recognising the value of experiential expertise. Participation needs to extend beyond a tokenistic role to genuine collaboration, reflecting active contributions throughout the planning, delivery, and evaluation of anti-stigma activities, in either programme lead or co–lead capacity." https://lnkd.in/dQe27FeA
