After much anticipation, "Wiring the Winning Organization" by Gene Kim and Steve Spear is set for release tomorrow! It's rare I describe a business book as one I "can't put down", but this book is truly in a category of its own. It's an indispensable guide for both technical and non-technical leaders.

Ok - so when the authors of The High Velocity Edge (Steve Spear) and The DevOps Handbook (Gene Kim) collaborate on a new book - you can hope and expect greatness. Having just started reading - the foreword from retired Admiral John M. Richardson brings to life immediately and vividly the performance impacts of #simplification #slowification #amplification. This will be a must-read book for enterprise leaders looking at the structure and dynamics required to embed and sustain #highperformance.

I'm keen to promote this book, but more specifically the learning within it and the impact that it may have on the world of work. Why? I will admit to not having read the book and only having a passing acquaintance with Gene Kim. But what I have read is the great articles published on the IT Revolution website (I think there are 12 already published), the 100 page extract published on the website and listened to the first chapter on YouTube. There is also a readers guide on the IT Revolution website. I'm also a fan of High Velocity Edge, DevOps Handbook. But this one is different .... how? First difference I'm feeling is the discussion on social circuitry. The authors spend a lot of time discussing this and the way they talk about this concept resonates with me. Being a fan of STS biases me towards this stuff. Second difference is the extensive case study list - how am I not surprised? Gene runs the DevOps Enterprise Summit and there are literally hundreds of case studies in these videos. He has access to more case study research than most academics!! Plus the practitioners viewpoint ... Third is the theorizing .... what? We learn best when we abstract our lived experiences into useful theories. Having access to lots of case studies is useless unless you can create a succinct and applicable theory to distill these to useful action. I'm told the book is on its way ... I cant wait 😀

This morning, I sat down to learn about the topic of changing complex systems. I'll be honest :);); the whole systems thinking thing is new to me, and my mind is still wrapping around it. What's intriguing is that I find these discussions enjoyable, and I'm even more curious to grasp the concepts. Sharing this with the hope of checking back in 5 years to see how much I've learned. #systemsthinking #innovation
