I've just been told again that I have a 98% chance that my business will fail.
I'm a minority female founder.
The odds are stacked against me and the stats are grim.
Having had a failed startup, I've learnt a few things:
🌠 It can take years to recover.
🌠 I will survive (cue song).
🌠 Your voice matters.
That's why I created the #Beyondlipservice podcast, to have honest, deep conversations with world-class experts about the real challenges they've faced to speak up and make a difference.
In my recent episode, I interviewed VC Maxim Matias, a partner at Quartz Capital and a late-stage investor in Palantir Technologies, valued at $55 billion, and Klarna.
Maxim explains the mechanics of VC, his challenges around public speaking, and insights on underrepresented founders:
"Particularly in tech, I think it's less than 15 percent that are female represented. Minority founders... might not have the same chances as other founders out there... we make sure that we give more chances to underrepresented founders and women."
Every founder and leader would benefit from hearing his insights, especially those fundraising or scaling a business.
📢 RARE OFFER ALERT: Maxim is open to any founder contacting him for advice on pitching to VCs through his initiative, Blackbird. Contact him directly on LinkedIn! 🚀

Having business babies and human ones at the same time sounds... full on.
It's something I try not to ask too many guests about, especially female founders, as it's easy to reinforce narratives that have been weaponised against women for far too long.
But on the other hand, I'm fascinated by how any founders do this - balancing the intensity and pressure, while making sure everything grows as it should.
It's something I'm actually wondering about researching and writing a book on- because it really feels like it's under-discussed, and would be so easy to feel alone (and like a failure) in.
Loved hearing our latest guest Kate Berski's story on this. As with this story, she was incredibly honest in her episode on the real highs and lows of her journey building CURLSMITH.
There are so many lessons in there for founders. I know I say this every week, but it's true every week, you will NOT want to miss this one when it drops so make sure you're subscribed to us on your favourite podcast app!
