Thoughts of a 21 year old. There are two types of people in the world. Those who go to the cinema earlier to watch the ads and those who don't. I'm in the first camp. For me, I think the ads I remember are either great, terrible or controversial. Recently, I was at the cinema and one of the new Kia ads came on. Personally, this one fell in the terrible category. I found it boring, lacking a clear message, and just another generic car ad. https://lnkd.in/d7HiJ_uj New car ads are so boring, I wish I grew up with some of the awesome car commercials from the past. Such as: Toyota-https://lnkd.in/d7mYQva8 Indestructible beast of a car. Of course my truck needs to withstand being tossed in the sea. Saab-https://lnkd.in/dSCE73aK Makes me lust after a 900 turbo even more. Their fighter jet sticks in your head more than any Kia. Porsche-https://lnkd.in/dZi-aU9y Everyone can remember that one thing they lusted after as a kid. Porsche builds the idea that owning a Porsche isn’t just having a car, it represents a dream accomplished. Nice to see a Porsche ad without 50 million fast cuts. Hopefully, you’re the person who made the Kia ad and you’re now thinking about buying a Toyota, Saab or Porsche. If not I’ve got a few questions I’m thinking about currently: Why have modern car ads become so boring? What’s your favourite car ad? Why has the car ad become X car driving on a nice road with no traffic, cut to interior shot, then drives off through the cityscape at night or a road through a forest?

Singer Design Porsche 911 test drive in the California Hills. High Performance Road Driving MASTERCLASS (with Paul Ripley) Here’s what expert performance road driving looks like in a high- performance Porsche. This time, in a remarkably brilliant Singer Porsche 911 (964 manual) with me taking a test drive in the California Hill above LA. The video demonstrates how every bend has to be matched to the vision available. Notice how specific hazards are seen early by utilising visual scanning processes and dealt with safely by decaying speed, so it matches the prevailing ‘mud on road hazard’ (1.10) and again for the wet / muddy road surface and the horse rider (1.38). Did YOU see those hazards on the road? This was a superb road to drive and what a car to do it in. But it’s not the car that delivers road driving expertise, that down to the driver who has to deliver performance road driving expertise in seriously quick cars on wonderful driving roads. Yes, it was left hand drive.  Yes, I had never driven this road before.  Yes again, that I had never driven this superb Singer Porsche manual 911 before. What a joy it was to pilot down this amazing road. Even more pressure was that my passenger was the Singer Design test driver too! We enjoyed this great road together and in those 30 minutes, we created a moment in history that will stay with me for ever.
