By taking a more holistic approach to education - one that is aligned with strengths + interests alongside academic knowledge - we can better prepare all students to reach their full potential. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, we need to: 👉🏼 Meet students where they are. 👉🏼 Understand their unique skills and interests. 👉🏼 Offer personalized guidance to help them navigate their futures. Prioritizing the individual student and their goals should be at the core of our educational system. By being more supportive of each student's journey, whether it involves college or alternative training programs, we can build bridges between high school and meaningful careers. 🌶️ take in #highered: we need to think of students more like consumers. Students have so many more choices than they did 5 or 10 years ago. Your university is now competing with: 👉 Dozens of peer universities from all over the country. 👉 Boot camps and certificate programs. 👉 Professional development provided by their employer. Is what you have to offer better? Perhaps. But they have to become students to find out. As consumers, we are used to delightful (or at least pleasant) buying experiences. If someone makes it hard to buy, we go elsewhere. Companies with poor experiences don’t stay companies for long. Your prospective students are making one of the largest “buying decisions” of their lives. Creating a better experience shows them you think they matter. That they are important. It signals to them that you have your act together, and the learning experience will be similarly delightful. I understand why business language makes universities uncomfortable. But that doesn’t mean we can’t learn from businesses. Especially when it serves our students.

Is university education losing its necessity in today's society? Are degrees still the be-all and end-all? With the rise of alternative learning paths, vocational training, and online education platforms, the traditional route might not be the only path to success anymore. Reflecting on my journey: I'm thriving in the same role as colleagues with degrees, proving that experience, skills, and dedication matter more than a piece of paper in my experience. In today's dynamic workplace, employers are valuing results over credentials. It's time to rethink the importance of degrees in shaping one's career trajectory. Specifically we need to be breaking barriers: Let's challenge the stigma surrounding degrees in Asian & ethnic communities that I’ve seen first hand. Success is NOT defined by a degree alone. It's about resilience, talent, and determination.
