✨✨ I am thrilled to share that I have successfully completed the Leading From the Middle to Further Equity & Student Success certificate program from Antioch University! 📜✨ We met for six weeks. I had the incredible opportunity to dive deep into transformative practices and strategies aimed at enhancing equity and student success. Here are my top three takeaways: 🌍 Embracing Inclusive Leadership: Learned how to foster an inclusive environment where every student feels valued and supported, leading to a more dynamic and equitable learning community. 📈 Data-Driven Decision Making: Gained insights into leveraging data to identify equity gaps and implement targeted interventions that promote student success and retention. 🤝 Building Collaborative Networks: Explored the power of collaboration and partnerships across various stakeholders to create a unified approach towards advancing equity and student achievement. This program has equipped me with the tools and knowledge to lead with empathy, drive systemic change, and champion student success from the middle. I am excited to apply these learnings and make a positive impact at USC Upstate and in the Office of Career Management! 🖤💚 🖤💚 Special thanks to Jon Wergin, Dr. Bennie Harris, Dr. Kim Purdy, Hannah Terpack, and Antonio J. McClintock (Tony). 🖤💚 #USCUpstate #AntiochUniversity #Leadership #Equity #StudentSuccess #ContinuousLearning #ProudGraduate

15 years ago I was wandering around the University of Chicago campus as a part of Teach For America’s summer institute preparing to become a teacher. I carpooled to Kansas City a few weeks later and began my career in education. Here’s what I learned that summer that still resonates with me now: 1) There’s always a deep knowing when you’re leaning into your purpose. I didn’t have a job, I didn’t know all the details, but I knew I was making the right step forward into my future. 2) Your community forms around your best intentions. I am still friends with the amazing people I met on campus that summer. Some of them still live in Kansas City. A few have become more like family then friends. 3) Nothing in this life is wasted if you believe it all works for your good. There are a million things I would have done better and that would have created a million more things to improve. Each step since then has led me to this place. I’ve circled back to find that when educators partner with parents, student success is accelerated. Where energy is channeled and outcomes explode into innovation, success knows no limit. Now is such a wonderful time to reflect and create a plan for the 2024/2025 school year where parents are partners and students excel. Crazy to think I wrote a book about this in 2019. The very next year I became a parent. It’s like I knew all along that my journey as an educator was bigger than just me. This work has been a part of my legacy. This city a part of our story… #kcmom #parentchampion #educator #thejourneycontinues #lifelearner #parentpartner

🎓👩🏾🦱 Millicent is one of the high schoolers part of our Scholarship Programme. Read below what she has to say about her experience as an Allan Gray Scholar in her grade 8 year: "Being an Allan Gray Scholar is the best thing that has ever happened to me. This is because it is a lifetime opportunity which is rare to get. I became a role model to the pupils in my primary school. That boosted my self-confidence and I started to realise how special I really was 🌟 Before I got into this programme, I was this anxious girl who was stuck in her own little bubble. But now, I can proudly say that I finally popped that bubble, explored new things and I am in the process of learning how to open up more about my feelings and thoughts. I now have many friends and I have joined a few sports activities 🏑🎾 📚📝The biggest challenge I have faced this year was transitioning from a public school to a private school. As the only private school learner in my family, I feel pressure to do my absolute best in everything. There were many things that I had to adjust to, like the environment, the language, and the subjects. I didn’t have any friends and I wasn’t used to using laptops. Luckily, I was able to make friends after the Orientation Camp. After that, everything became much easier." Applications are now open to grade 6 learners. In our recent episode "College Unbound" from the Traditional Model, Michael Horn shared insights that challenge conventional #HigherEducation models. He spoke about how College Unbound is revolutionizing the way academic programs are designed, placing a focus on student-centric learning. College Unbound's approach represents a significant shift from the traditional faculty-centric model to one that is intrinsically student-focused. By interweaving the students' purpose into the core of course design and program development, College Unbound ensures that the educational experience is not only relevant but also deeply resonant with each student's individual goals and aspirations. This methodology is more than just a structural change; it's a philosophical one that reimagines the role of faculty and students in the learning journey. It challenges conventional universities to rethink how they engage with students, moving beyond ancillary student success teams to a more integrated, purpose-driven educational framework. This episode is made with support from Ascendium's Education Philanthropy.

If you want to get into a top university you need to go beyond having a great GPA and high standardized test scores. With competition becoming fiercer with each passing year, there are other students with as good or better grades and scores. So how do you get into the school of your dreams? You need to get hyperspecific about where you want to go and why you want to go there. You need to understand what stands out to specific schools and you need to look into non-scholastic opportunities to put yourself above and beyond. Lean into experiences and achievements that you feel passionate about and help define your unique value to society. You can learn to do this with our complimentary consultation. There's no pressure to work with us and we'll get you pointed in the right direction to stand out from the crowd. https://lnkd.in/gN6bgwxu

Summer 2023 marked the birth of a term that encapsulates our devotion to putting students at the core of their learning experience. "Radically" signals a departure from the norm, a call for profound change. We're challenging the traditional to create an education system that's not just different but innovative, adaptive, and transformative. "Student" is not just a word for us; it's the heartbeat of our mission. Students aren't passive recipients but active participants, each with unique abilities, interests, and dreams. We're unwaveringly committed to recognizing and nurturing the potential within every learner. "Centered" symbolizes a shift. Away from teacher-centric or content-centric models, towards a system where students take center stage in their educational journey. They aren't just spectators; they're decision-makers, shaping their own destinies. Students are the protagonists in our story, the reason we exist. "Radically Student Centered" is more than a phrase; it's our pledge to ensure learners receive an education that empowers them for success in the 21st century and beyond. Share your thoughts - what does "Radically Student Centered" mean to you? #KayTwelve #BeTheChange #YouBelongHere #RadicallyStudentCentered
