Who doesn't love a travel trade show? I've been to my fair share of conferences, events, summits and roundtables throughout the years, but there's nothing quite like a trade show. It's total chaos of course. Running between meetings. Or sitting at a stand talking to one person after another, after another, after another. But I will never forget my first trade show. It was World Travel Market (WTM) London in 2007, representing Normandy as part of the Maison de la France stand (as it was then called, remember those days anyone??). My colleagues had tried to tell me what to expect. They'd explained how big it was, how many different kinds of stands there were, and how crowded it would be. But it still didn't prepare me for the reality. All of those incredible displays from countries all over the world. The sheer scale of it, the colours and the languages from everywhere. Even as someone who had travelled quite a lot by the age of 23, it was still very impressive. Over the years, it lost its magic. Trade shows became another obligation as part of the annual planning. But for some reason this year, with it being my first time attending as 'myself,' representing, well, me and planning to spend most of it catching up with old friends and colleagues, I'm quite excited about it again. Just for fun, here's a much younger Stephanie, at one of my first ever trade shows many years ago, in my first travel job repping Normandy (and trying not to drink all the Calvados minis).
