We recently poured the foundation for our new Wasilla Branch! It's so exciting to see this plan come to fruition. Last week, the Mat-Su Regional Spring Economic Summit was held in Wasilla, and we were proud to be a gold sponsor of the event. Discussion was robust, surrounding resources to support a growing borough. Wasilla will soon be CU1's newest branch community, and we are dedicated to fostering economic growth and community in the region! The opening of our new branch in late fall 2024 will not only provide convenient service for our members, but also create a meeting space for nonprofit organizations and employment opportunities for Alaskans.

Many of you know that entrepreneurship is something near and dear to my heart, and that I'm a child of newcomers. Vision2Reality Foundation is a 100% online, non-profit organization dedicated to helping newcomers to B.C. realize their business vision. The good folks at V2F have put together the Tri-Mentorship Program - grouping three members together: one mentor and two mentees, fostering lasting connections and support. Mentors provide guidance, share experiences, and offer industry insights while mentees gain knowledge and expertise. Together, they define actionable goals and hold each other accountable for progress. Please join me in supporting this program to empower individuals who want to grow personally and professionally, build a skilled and resilient community, and make a lasting impact on lives. Your donation contributes to developing future leaders who can positively impact their communities. Sharing an article I co-authored with Deepa Iyer and Ahmad Abuznaid on the importance of movement infrastructure in Nonprofit Quarterly. This captures the work we have been holding with Building Movement Project and the massive infrastructure needs that exist in the BAMEMSA ecosystem. “Coalition building in response to crises is hard work and raises important questions. How do nonprofits and social justice groups move from a reactive position to building long-term power? What do movements need to sustain the energy and motivation of new activists around the nation? The answer is simple: we need movement infrastructure that can support robust rapid-response efforts and long-term power building.”

KCDF works with other community organizations, supporting them to become community foundations, and helping them sustainably solve challenges within their communities. While these community foundations are in their early stages, their systems may not be very strong. Therefore, KCDF comes in to strengthen their systems, capacity build, and ensure they can sustainably function and run on their own. if you know of a social aid program that’s more effective than GUARANTEED INCOME at honoring people’s dignity, agency, and right to SELF-DETERMINATION, please let me know in the comments…👀 i recently had the pleasure of working with ThirdSpace Action Lab and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to connect the dots between ANTI-RACIST COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT and UNIVERSAL BASIC INCOME. in short, guaranteed income works and i would love to see institutional philanthropy (and our government) invest more into making it a reality. check out more of my thoughts (4 min read) at https://lnkd.in/geFhKhKX

Fellow Torontonians, How Civically Engaged Are You? A new report from the Toronto Foundation's 2023 Vital Signs Report, shows a concerning trend regarding our falling levels of collective civic engagement. Being an active community volunteer has always been part of my DNA, and I consider myself very fortunate to be able to give back with my time, skills, and dollars. In addition to providing stats the report, provides resources and suggestions for getting involved. These stats won't change unless those of us who can engage take up the challenge. I applaud the report's focus on helping readers take action and become engaged. Here are some top-level stats from the report >The percentage of people with six or more close friends declined by 20 percentage points from 2013 to 2018 and a further nine points from 2018 to 2022. >The volunteer rate fell from 37% to 25% between 2018 and 2022, while the donation rate slipped from 75% to 63%, leading to a loss of about 300,000 donors and 300,0000 volunteers. #Toronto #civicengagement #torontofoundation #volunteering #commuity #thesix Read the full report here:

As a Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund), we are able to partner with banks to provide capital not only to for-profit businesses, but also to nonprofit agencies. This video from Pinnacle Financial Partners shows an example of the positive impacts these partnerships can have upon a community. #banking #communitybanking #cdfi #economicdevelopment
We want to thank Pinnacle Financial Partners (PNFP) for supporting us in our role as a Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund) . As a CDFI, our mission goals include promoting community development, and one of the ways to accomplish this is by providing capital to programs that positively impact their local community. In our hometown, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Chattanooga, is one of those programs. Through our partnership with PNFP, we were able to provide capital to support the expansion of this program’s facility. The completed renovation provides a learning lab, training room, an outdoor space for program participants, and more offices to accommodate a growing staff. #CDFI #banking #communitydevelopment #nonprofit #economicdevelopment
