Dear researchers in film #subtitling, When discussing decisions regarding the artistic and narrative aspects of, say, on-screen text, have in mind these are typically taken by the #creative team (director, screenwriter, editor, graphic designer), not the #production team, who are mainly concerned with budgeting, scheduling, logistics, staffing, etc. Executive producers have a higher-level, oversight role in a film's production. Their involvement in specific creative decisions, like the use of on-screen text or subtitles, is limited unless these decisions have implications for the film's overall vision or marketability.

“What even is a Producer??” The number of times I get this question is astounding, especially when it’s asked by people in the entertainment industry. In conversation, I try to explain using examples from daily life, but often my audience gets lost. Frankly, the answer isn’t all that simple. I’ve found that for every project, every studio, and every producer themselves have a different definition of what the role of “Producer” looks like. For some projects, the clearly defined ‘Line Producer’ is the person who “handles the money,” while in other spaces, like my most recent contract at King Studio, I found this title to be a little more flexible. As a ‘Creative Producer’ at King Studio, I wrote, pitched, developed, ideated, budgeted, hired, planned, managed, coordinated, directed, and wrapped projects. This workload isn’t universal to a Producer’s role; at a smaller studio, the title of ‘Producer’ can be pretty broad. Generally, Producers are go-getters and, at times, jack-of-all-trades. Sounds stressful? It can be, but Producers find joy and order in that chaos. Ideally, the Producer is the engine for the ship that is the project. Sure, you have the captain (director) and the crew, but having a Producer do a lot of the grueling (and maybe heavy?) lifting down below is essential to its success. If you are a Creative, especially one who is struggling to finish projects alone, you need to hire a Producer. Even if this person isn’t skilled in the task at hand, they will hire, resource, or simply grind their way into getting that task done. So next time someone asks you what a Producer is, feel free to try and explain. Or simply say: “They’re the magic behind the mayhem.” #Producer #Creative #Production #CreativeProducer #YouTube #CreativeIdeation #Producing #Filmmaking

COLLEAGUE TALENT APPRECIATION POST!!! Is it me or do you sometimes get blown away by the skills of someone you are working with? Well today it’s studio engineers. I had the pleasure of doing a long dubbing and ADR session in central London at Molinare Molinare Creative Group today and had a few brief moments to watch James Battley and Noah D. working their magic in the studio under a lot of pressure. They’re like soundboard speed demons! (You can use that last line as a testimonial 😉) Seriously, when one is lucky enough to work with professionals at the top of their game, it’s a real treat to just see very high performance in an area that I would not have a clue how to operate in at that level and under those demands. That’s why I love collaborating with others where I can, because I find it brings the best out in a project. Sure, it’s cheaper if you can keep the staff minimal, but when you can find the right levels, it can do wonders for the whole project and dramatically exceed expectations. So here’s to the sound engineers and those who are blooming great at what they do. Through years of hard work and dedication to their craft. And cheers to making me sound half decent in a booth 😂🙏🏼🤞🏼 Who has blown you away with their work recently? - - - - - Need a highly experienced voice actor who can offer fast, simple and affordable solutions to your creative problems? Let’s talk it through 😂 Message through here or via my website: E: stephen@stephenspencer.co.uk W: StephenSpencer.co.uk #producers #creatives #productioncompanies #creativedirectors

Post-production is a crucial stage in filmmaking that involves editing, visual effects, sound design, and color grading. Without a post-production coordinator, the process can easily become disorganized, leading to delays, errors and budget overruns. Find out what a post-production coordinator does here: @Music_Gateway

Next film underway. As supervising sound editor one my duties is to gather, organize, and parse out everything to the rest of the team in order to help them be more efficient and know what's going on. What's shown here is a spotted session. There's a Scene Cut track (that's been labeled with the environments to direct BG/AMB cutting), scene markers, any notes from the director and/or post supervisor (some technical, some creative). Now that this is done I export different sections and/or sessions with specific tracks per department as well as EDLs that include marker notes for those on the team working outside of Pro Tools. Any questions? #blackrerecordingmixer #audiopostproduction #audiopost #blacksupervisingsoundeditor

As a film director, I've encountered a myriad of challenges both on and off the sets. #OnSetChallenges: 1. Tight Schedules: Managing time efficiently to meet production deadlines can be a daily struggle. 2. Creative Differences: Balancing artistic vision with the input of a diverse team can be demanding. 3. Technical Hurdles: Dealing with equipment malfunctions or unexpected technical glitches can disrupt shooting. 4. Actor Dynamics: Nurturing a positive working relationship with the cast is crucial for a successful project. 5. Weather Woes: Outdoor shoots are at the mercy of Mother Nature, making weather-related challenges common. #OffSetChallenges: 1. Financing: Securing funding and managing budgets is a constant off-set concern. 2. Marketing: Promoting the film effectively in a competitive market demands creativity and strategy. 3. Post-Production Perfection: Editing, sound design, and VFX require meticulous attention to detail. 4. Legal Matters: Navigating contracts, copyrights, and distribution agreements can be complex. 5. Work-Life Balance: Maintaining personal well-being while dedicating extensive hours to a project is a continuous juggling act. While challenges abound in the world of filmmaking, the rewards of bringing a vision to life on the silver screen make it all worthwhile. #FilmDirectorLife #BehindTheScenes #FilmmakingJourney
