There's a major disconnect between women's purchasing power and their representation in creative leadership by the very brands that market to them. While women make the majority of purchasing decisions in the US, their continued exclusion from creative leadership roles can lead to advertising that fails to resonate — and perform. Learn why equal representation in the creative suite is crucial for your organization (not to mention our society as a whole) on our blog. #InclusiveAdvertising #GenderEquality #CreativeLeadership

What If Advertising Was Built Around the Default Woman? Kiska Howell, Head of Business Leadership, DDB Chicago and Carrie Muehlemann, Head of People and Culture, DDB Chicago and Rodgers Townsend sat down with LBBonline - Little Black Book on what a truly woman-centric agency or industry would look like. Kiska proclaims: "Women supporting women is extremely powerful and absolutely necessary—but it’s not the answer to real change. Change will only come once the industry reflects the beautiful diversity of the world we create for—and the agencies that get there first will win," whereas Carrie mentions: "In my future world, I hope we strive for a human-centric industry. An industry that fully rewards and values the uniqueness everyone brings to the table. Inviting a wide range of thinkers, makers, doers and dreamers into our agencies." An industry focused on diversity and that is people-first is certainly an industry we can get behind. Appreciate both of their thoughts and inspiration on this International Women's Day. Chief Executive Officer | Cultural Intelligence® Expert | Inc. 5000 | Board Director (NASDAQ: ZUMZ, BVC: RCNTELEVI) | TED Speaker| TV Commentator | Founder
I am deeply grateful to have joined the Association of National Advertisers SEE HER conference today alongside industry change makers like Lisa Lucatuorto Mallen and Sheereen Miller-Russell where we engaged in a thought provoking discussions on the representation of women both in front of and behind the camera, as well as within the spheres of marketing and advertising creativity. Despite women making up approximately 50% of the population, their representation in leadership roles within the media and advertising industries tells a different story. Currently, women hold only about 32% of executive positions in major media companies, and the gap widens further in creative director roles at top advertising agencies. This disparity is not just a challenge; it is a vast opportunity for innovation and growth. As we delve into the statistics, it's clear that while women are underrepresented, diverse women represent the fastest-growing demographic in the United States. This shift presents a unique chance for businesses to connect with their audience through more inclusive and representative marketing strategies. To my fellow CMOs and industry leaders, let us take this opportunity to champion the cause of not only elevating women but also ensuring that diverse voices are heard and showcased in our campaigns. By doing so, we are not just closing the representation gap; we are also crafting marketing strategies that resonate more authentically with our audiences, driving engagement and fostering brand loyalty in an increasingly competitive landscape. Let's continue to push the boundaries of creativity and leadership by embracing diversity as a cornerstone of our industry's future. Thank you once again to ANA SEE HER for sparking this pivotal conversation. Thank you Christine Guilfoyle and Katie McKenna for making me feel at home. #ANASeeHer #WomenInMedia #DiversityInAdvertising #Leadership #Innovation
