🎞️ Entertainment Industry Professionals: Do you struggle with summarizing the vast scope of work you are able to do? In the arts it is normal for one person to cover the work of multiple individuals in other industries. An immediate example that comes to mind is how a stage manager in the theatre industry easily covers the jobs of four people in other industries. When explaining my experience to people outside of entertainment, it seems like it’s impossible to have done such a wide variety in my past roles. I’d love to hear from other entertainment professionals about their experience describing what exactly it is that you do, and the value you bring to the table? #entertainmentindustry #artswork #creativeprofessionals

The linked question below really got me thinking so I wanted to share my thoughts to continue the conversation and, hopefully, help some new industry folk find their own comfort in the discomfort... I struggled SO hard for years trying to "identify" myself and the role I played in #themedentertainment. At the end of the day, I chose to focus on the "marketable" skills I was putting forward. I would ask myself, "What is the tangible deliverable that I am trying to get hired for?" Keep in mind, this can be different for your varying social circles. Sure, I can pinch-hit as an actor. Yes, I can record my own Voice-Overs. Absolutely, I edit my own marketing videos because I've been editing film since I was 12 years old. But none of that matters if the stakeholders are looking for a script-writer or a producer (which...is also me). I think the key is to focus on a couple tangibles to get your foot in the door, then expand outward. This happened to me accidentally when I started off at a Christmas light manufacturer as their "light show programmer" and then expanded with the company into a whole slew of things from music producing to animation-directing and a whole bunch of technical skills I did not have when I walked in there. #producer #themedentertainmentdesign #seasonalattractions #lightshows #hauntedattractions #hauntedhouses #productionmanager #creativemanager

🌟 What Makes a Great Cast Member? 🌟 In the world of theatre, casting is an art form. But have you ever wondered if there's a "formula" for the perfect cast member? While the essence of performance is beautifully complex and often unquantifiable, let's play with a theoretical equation that captures the spirit of what might make the ideal cast member: Great Cast Member Score = 0.167T + 0.167P + 0.167W + 0.167V + 0.167A + 0.167G Where: - T stands for Talent: Natural ability in performing arts. - P for Professionalism: Reliability and respect for the craft. - W is Work Ethic: Dedication to mastering the role. - V represents Versatility: The ability to adapt to various roles and genres. - A denotes Audience Appeal: The capacity to connect and resonate with viewers. - G is Growth Potential: Continuous personal and professional development. Each factor (T, P, W, V, A, G) is scored on a scale from 1 to 10, where 10 is the highest. Each attribute is crucial, contributing equally to the makings of a great cast member. It's a blend of skill, dedication, adaptability, and connection that elevates a performance from good to unforgettable. The maximum score is 10, which would indicate the almost impossible situation of a perfect performer. Of course, this equation is more of a playful thought experiment than a casting guide. The magic of performance lies in the unique blend of attributes each performer brings, often defying quantification. Yet, it invites us to appreciate the multifaceted talents and hard work that define excellence in the arts. Let's celebrate the diversity of skills and qualities in our industry! What do you think are the most essential traits of a great cast member? Share your thoughts below! 🎭✨ #TheatreLife #TheatreIndustry #CastingCall #PerformingArts #ProfessionalGrowth

This past weekend, I wrapped up stage managing a local theatre production. While people think that community theatre is "just for fun," here's three ways I use stage managing skills in my work as a career consultant: -Stage managers are event planners. A theatre production is a full-scale event which requires the ability to keep organized all the elements to make a cohesive event. I plan events (large and small scale) where understanding the big picture and the impact on the audience is essential. -Stage managers are problem solvers. Even a step further, they have to predict what will go wrong before it can ever go wrong and prep ahead to avoid issues. While this can seem like a negative view, it actually helps to know alternatives when developing workshops or when to pivot. -Stage managers are detail-oriented. They need to know the who/what/when/where/why for every scene, every cue, every prop, etc. and then lay it all out so everyone is on the same page. This is why I can ask such specific questions in career consulting and get to the heart of my students' needs. Today, I want to give love to other community theatre stage managers, as well as those on cast and crew for the dedication and skills that they bring to other facets of their work and life. #stagemanagers #yinzercareercoach #wednesdaywisdom #theatre

The #Collaborative Spirit: Lessons from #theatre for #corporate Success In the world of theatre, strangers often come together to create something magical—a play. The process of theatre making is a lesson in collaboration, one that holds valuable insights for corporates striving for success in today's interconnected business landscape. The journey begins with diverse individuals, each bringing their unique talents, perspectives, and experiences to the table. Actors, directors, playwrights, set designers, costume designers, and technicians—all contribute their expertise to breathe life into a collective vision. Similarly, in the corporate world, teams comprised of individuals from various backgrounds and disciplines must unite to achieve common goals.I'm experiencing such enriching journey with a team we formed in #gurgaon . #communication is the cornerstone of successful #theatre production. Open dialogue, active listening, and constructive feedback foster a supportive environment where ideas can flourish. Likewise, effective communication is essential in the corporate setting, enabling teams to align their efforts, overcome challenges, and innovate. Theatre teaches adaptability and resilience. Rehearsals may encounter setbacks, scripts may evolve, and performances may face unexpected challenges. Yet, through resilience and teamwork, the show goes on. In the corporate world, adaptability is equally crucial, especially in today's rapidly changing business landscape. Embracing change, learning from failures, and staying nimble are essential for long-term success. Please share our experience and participate in this #suspense #thriller #courtroom #drama. Ultimately, the collaborative spirit of theatre serves as a powerful metaphor for corporate success. By embracing diversity, fostering open communication, nurturing trust, promoting adaptability, and celebrating collective achievements, organizations can harness the collective talents of their teams to achieve extraordinary results. #delhi #delhiuniversity #LTG #delhidiaries

In the grand theater of life, waiting in the wings won't bring you the starring role. Instead, seize the spotlight by creating your own opportunity. Opportunities rarely knock politely on your door; they often emerge from the initiative, innovation, and determination you muster to bring your dreams to life. So, don't be a spectator in your own story. Be the playwright, director, and lead actor. Write your own script, set the stage, and create the opportunities that lead to your success. Let this be your reminder: Waiting may be passive, but creation is an act of empowerment. #createopportunities #takecharge #linkedincreators #makeithappen

Actors are the ultimate sales people!!! I was recently asked, “What’s one thing people that aren’t perfomers would be surprised to know about them?” My immediate answer: “Actors are the ultimate sales people” When an actor steps into an audition room (that maybe they’ve been waiting ~7 hours to enter) they have all of about 1 minute to prove to the creative team and casting directors that they are the right fit for the show/role. 1 minute that could possibly give them their next paycheck or some much needed extra income. Alot rides on that one minute, no interview, no application, just you. Someone who can remain calm and collected under that type of pressure? That’s someone I want on my team. Someone who is so passionate about something that they are willing to make the short term sacrifices for long term gain? That’s someone I want on my team. This is only scratching the surface of the immense amount of transferable skills a theatre degree has provided for me that I now bring to a corporate role. Let people study what they love and see how they will use it at your company. #studentvoices #theatre #youthleadership #artseducation
