Wonderful start to the Life of Mine conference. Water is a key consideration for closure. This came out strongly in the panel on Indigenous Participation in Life of Mine planning: key values are centred around Land & Water when it comes to cultural connection. It’s a journey on many fronts, but one thing is clear, we must think about the end right from the very beginning. https://lnkd.in/gJfWrxQq

Talk is cheap. Or at least the Technical Writing & Presentation Development course I'm teaching again this year for the GRA: Groundwater Resources Association of California's Groundwater 101 Week is. If you want to bolster your communication skillset, you should consider registering. You don't even have to know anything about groundwater! Don't take it from me, here are some actual reviews: "This was an excellent session that exceeded my expectations. I learned a lot and was engaged the whole time. The presentation was very well prepared and full of practical tips and relevant examples." "The instructor was able to make a quite "boring" topic rather interesting. He had good tips for both presentations and general grammar with examples. I appreciated his showing of graphical presentations and their effectiveness." "Best session!" and my personal favorite: "GREAT course...simple, clear, and concise with just the right amount of injected humor! Trying how to tactfully let my supervisor know he NEEDS to attend!"
GROUNDWATER 101 Week is Here! We are excited to announce the upcoming "Groundwater 101 Week," hosted by GRA from July 15-19, 2024. GRA: Groundwater Resources Association of California Groundwater 101 week is a great opportunity for students and professionals. Last year, we saw a major increase in public agency staff participate to learn more about groundwater, wells, and more to assist them in their everyday work taking on new responsibilities related to SGMA. One of my favorite courses that is offered this year at Groundwater 101 week is on Presenting and Technical Writing by Gus Tolley, PhD, PG who is an exceptional, engaging speaker. Did you know that one of GRA’s keynote speakers had an influence on Gus’ presentation style that he uses today to wow people at every conference? I remember when I first met Gus at the Western Groundwater Congress in Sacramento in 2019. He was wrapping up his doctorate degree and was excited to share his work with attendees. He took the keynote speaker recommendations, “Talk Nerdy to Me” by Melisa Marshall, and redid his ENTIRE presentation that night. When I went to his talk the following day, I was blown away by how excellent it was, especially on a heavily technical topic like interconnected surface water-groundwater modeling! Modeling presentations are not known for being engaging let alone easy to understand so to experience one that achieved both was amazing! This years lineup of courses are truly excellent. So many great learning opportunities that provide high value. Take advantage of this affordable, high quality education offering that will surely have a positive impact on your career! PS this post was not sponsored by Gus 😂 #water #groundwater #engineering #talknerdytome #publicspeaking #presentation #networking #education
