Chasing the Sun was made for me And for many South Africans But not for every one Why did the Springboks make Chasing the Sun? I believe what the documentary tells us was as much part of their mission as it was to win the Rugby World Cup What is that mission? Was it for the glory of success? Then why spend time on the problems? Why show the humble beginnings of the players? Why focus on the players dropped/sacrificed for the team? "Hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie." Those immortal words Their mission is to save a country by showing a nation what it means to be part of something bigger and to remind them what they are capable of when they are part of the team with the greatest mission on Earth A long time ago I made a decision To get out of the stands To stop being a spectator To run onto the field and join the team Many Saffas abroad and at home are part of that team We cry when we see Siya Kolisi holding Cheslin Kolbe at the final whistle We cry when we hear Makazole Mapimpi or Deon Fourie's story We cry when we see Rassie arriving back at OR Tambo airport Because we know something that others don’t know We have decided to be part of something bigger We have decided to stop spectating and start playing We are part of Team Saffa This doesn’t mean we don't fear for South Africa's future It doesn't mean we don’t feel helpless much of the time We are not blind to the impossible challenge Yet we have a deep hope And we are doing something with that hope We don't sit back and simply watch things crumble We get out there and SCRUM and RUCK and SPRINT and TACKLE and FIX and BUILD and TEACH and SHARE and PRAY and SPEAK and INSPIRE Team Saffa is just made up of normal people from all sorts of backgrounds Some live in South Africa And some live in London, Melbourne, Austin, Singapore, Dubai, Amsterdam, Porto, Shanghai, Perth, Toronto, Auckland, Berlin, every corner of the planet What unites Team Saffa is the same thing that fires the Springboks that despite our disadvantages and despite everything that should divide us we are showing the world what greatness is possible when we stand together and fight for the greatest prize: The Redemption of a Nation ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I will be posting some practical things we can do as Team Saffa Especially for the expats around the world who feel this deep thing If you are doing something that is supporting the mission feel free to share it, repost, comment.
