It is well known by many in the health care setting the joy, comfort, and magic child life specialists bring to the health care experience of a child, yet little is being done to advance the field and ensure every area of the health care system is adequately staffed with child life professionals. Let's take a moment to ponder the void left when child life services are absent. The potential decline in patient outcomes and the quality of care is a stark reality without our presence. During the current staffing crisis, it's crucial to recognize that hospitals without consistent Child Life services may be witnessing a drop in patient satisfaction scores and an increase in the cost of care. Numerous studies highlight the incredible impact child life specialists make – from improving quality of care to reducing cost – we are a vital part of the care team that's missed by all parties involved when absent. So, let's not forget the risks involved when child life services are missing from an institution or care area! We know you have likely considered what can be gained by adding a child life specialist to your team, BUT... have you also taken the time to consider what can be lost if you do not? #MentalHealthIsHealth #ChildLife #ChildLifeSpecialist #ChildLifeServices #ChildLifeStaffingCrisis #PediatricCare #ImprovingPediatricCare

Parenthood is a journey filled with unparalleled joys and inevitable anxieties. From the first smile to the sleepless nights, every moment is precious yet challenging. One of the biggest hurdles modern parents face is the overwhelming amount of information available online about paediatric care. It's important to get your info from reliable sources: 1. For accurate guidance in this digital age. With so many opinions and advice circulating on the internet, distinguishing fact from fiction is crucial for your child's health. 2. For peace of mind, knowing that your sources are credible provides you with reassurance and confidence in your parenting decisions. 3. For the health and safety of your child. Accurate information ensures your family receives appropriate care, reducing the risk of harm from misguided advice. The most common pitfalls with online information: - Different websites and forums may offer contradictory recommendations on topics like nutrition, sleep, and health. - Not all online content is created by qualified professionals, leading to potential misinformation. - The sheer volume of information can make it difficult to know where to start and what to trust. As parents, it's vital to seek out reliable, evidence-based sources to guide your decisions. Websites like HealthyChildren.org (from the American Academy of Pediatrics) or Med School for Parents (in Canada) aim to provide well-researched, expert-backed information. By prioritising these sorts of sources, you can navigate parenthood with greater confidence and clarity. #TrifectivPlus #Parenthood #PaediatricCare #ReliableInformation #ParentingTips #ChildHealth #TrustedSources #InformedParenting

Do you ever feel like there are two baby feeding camps in birth worker spaces? "Breast is best" or "fed is best." Yet as a #doula, clients rarely fall neatly into one of these categories or experiences. If we focus on each client's unique experience and feelings, we reduce the shame and guilt that too often comes with any parenting choice. Let's explore what we might encounter. 1) Baby receives the milk directly and exclusively from the nursing parent. 2) Expressed / pumped milk: A parent might express milk and bottle feed their baby exclusively. 3) Exclusive formula feeding: Parents may choose formula due to personal preference, insufficient glandular tissue (IGT) or another medical condition, or they may have past trauma which could mean neither nursing nor expressing milk (pumping) are possible for them. 4) Clients may prefer language like: Chestfeeding or Feeding my baby with my body / body feeding: Encountering these terms we might be working with a trans dad, clients who are nonbinary or gender non-conforming, or may simply prefer less gendered language. Exclusive #chestfeeding may be possible, or we may support clients using helpers such as pumps, teaching hand expression, or using a supplemental #nursing system. 5) Donor Milk: This refers to human milk obtained from a milk bank or another trusted donor. 6) Combination Feeding: Any combination of the above! Let's work together to foster deeper understanding of a variety of circumstances, so we can support our clients in feeding their babies in a way that works for them!
