📚️ Monday read 📚️ Some weeks ago, the European Environment Agency published its report "Accelerating the circular economy in Europe". The report highlights that achieving effective circularity requires functioning markets, but for many recycled materials, the secondary raw material markets are not performing well, reflecting a pressing need to tackle challenges on pricing, standards and supply stability. EURATEX supports a systemic shift towards high-quality recycling to make textiles circularity a reality. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eN8cuFiH #circularity #circulareconomy #textiles #supplychain #price #costs #standards #recycled #rawmaterials

It’s #ThrowbackThursday – and as August 25th is National Second Hand Wardrobe Day – we’d like to highlight the study “Circular Economy in the Textile Sector” which was commissioned by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and funded by the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) in 2019. It addresses the concept of #circulareconomy in the #textile industry and: - outlines the conceptual implications of a circular textile sector - presents the status quo of implementing a circular textile industry at the EU level - assesses innovative recycling technologies and - discusses challenges and potential solutions for the transformation to a circular textile sector. 🌟 Breaking News in Sustainable Textile Management! 🌟 The European Commission has proposed revolutionary rules to hold producers accountable for the entire lifecycle of textile products, championing sustainability across the EU. This initiative is a significant step towards realizing the EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles, aiming to bolster the separate collection, sorting, reuse, and recycling of textiles. By mandating Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes, producers will bear the costs of managing textile waste, fostering incentives for waste reduction and product circularity. Key highlights include: 🔄 Eco-modulation: Producers' contributions will be adjusted based on the environmental performance of textiles, promoting sustainable practices from the outset. 🔍 Harmonized EPR Schemes: Common EU rules will streamline textile waste management, facilitating separate collection efforts by Member States from 2025. 🔬 Innovation Focus: The proposal emphasizes R&D into cutting-edge technologies like fibre-to-fibre recycling, propelling the textiles sector towards circularity. 🌍 Combatting Illegal Exports: Stricter definitions will deter the practice of disguising waste as reusable textiles, aligning with measures to ensure environmentally sound waste management. This proposal not only addresses the environmental imperative but also promises economic benefits such as job creation and consumer savings. It's a win-win for sustainability and the economy alike! Stay tuned as the proposal progresses through the legislative process. Together, we're paving the way for a greener, more circular future for textiles in Europe. #SustainableTextiles #CircularEconomy #EUInitiatives #EnvironmentalAction #InnovationInTextiles #WasteManagement #EUCommission Let's spark conversation and drive positive change! 💬🌱
