In my role as a vertrouwenspersoon/trusted person, I've seen firsthand the power of trust and early intervention in the workplace. It's heartening when colleagues seek support early, allowing us to navigate challenges together. Yet, it's deeply saddening when individuals come forward only after deciding to leave our organization, limiting our ability to help beyond sharing in their grief. Having served as a vertrouwenspersoon/trusted person for seven years, I've learned the critical importance of this role in fostering a supportive, open work environment. It's not about accolades but about making a real difference in our colleagues' lives and our organizational culture. I encourage more of you to consider becoming a vertrouwenspersoon/trusted person. Are you supporting your team's specialties? Last night, we celebrated our daughter's best friend's 5th birthday with a family dinner. As the table was set and the food laid out, there was a buzz of excitement. The 'favorite' family dish, lovingly prepared by our friend's mother, was about to make its appearance. Not only was it delicious, but we also got a take-home bag at the end of the night! This experience made me think about the unique specialties each team member brings to the table. How do we best support them in showcasing these strengths? Much like that favored dish, our work methods are a blend of ingredients and processes. When these are harnessed by a specialist and shared with the team, we ensure that their valuable contributions are savored and appreciated long into the future.
