I was in the office 4 times last week – luckily all with purpose that inspired and excited me. But it was a juggle. I had a 9am meeting, nursery doesn’t open until 7.45. My partner also had conflicting meetings which meant both of us wouldn’t make pick ups (🙏 thank you grandad for stepping in). It got me thinking how working in an office 9-5 just isn’t set up for working families. Many have to go part time, taking a cut to their salary, just to manage this juggle. The same salary that enables them to pay for the childcare so that they can work🤨. Make it make sense. I just can’t understand why some companies are mandating so many days back in the office. What reason could there possibly be (aside from your hefty office cost…) There are so many reasons why flexible working is not a nice to have but a necessity, especially for inclusivity, and I love that at Tomorrow we have no mandated days in the office and flexible hours. Sharing how to build *more than* brands | Co-Founder at Hampshire Jeffreys. STRATEGIC DIGITAL MARKETING PARTNERS TO ICONIC BRANDS.
A huge role it certainly is...personally, I think this role ad indicates the current issue within social media. We have an everything-for-nothing attitude to social media and digital in the UK that discredits the impact of creativity. Brands' and individuals' presence on social has the potential to be the single most impactful and recurring promotional/marketing investment they make. And the demand for brands to have their social curated and managed continues to grow at a rapid rate. But just because it's social media and not billboards, doesn't mean it's easy... In fact, it NEVER stops, so it's arguably harder. One role for a challenge this size shouldn't really encompass these 5 differing skill sets. This role (like many social media roles I see) is going to require its social media person they be: A photographer A videographer A producer / editor (likely to V high standard) A brand strategist A data analyst + Operations/customer service Don't get me wrong, some of those skills 100% go together to form a cohesive digital marketing role. But I think (in the UK especially) we need to get real. Even in an AGENCY, those skills are split between roles, or at the very least are achieved within teams. Don't try to cram all your marketing under one umbrella to spend the absolute minimum, yet expect an impressive impact and ROI. I believe this role will require an extended creative team at their disposal, certainly an assistant to some degree, or an agency that can cover all the bases. We need to start seeing and crediting social media investment the same way we see advertising investment, and in the UK we need to start embracing advertising investment full stop 😂

Please stop telling Social Media professionals their job isn't hard. You are discrediting the work of a lot of individuals. Social media is more than just posting. It takes strategy, trial and error, being able to adapt constantly to new social media changes, and a special level of creativity. (There is a lot more but, I don't want to be here all day) Social media professionals are passionate about Social Media Management/Marketing, community and being a creative. Don’t be one of those people who discredits someone’s passion or career. The amazing social media campaigns and brands you see daily killing it on socials don’t create themselves. It’s months of work, failures, reworking strategies, moving deadlines around, content creation, collaborating with other departments, community & crisis management, late nights, etc. We are marketing professionals and should be seen as such. Also, if it was so easy everyone would do it.

Be wary of affinity brands that are constantly hiring. It may not be growth related. It could be code/indication of high turnover rate especially if they use PR tactics like “Voted Best Place To Work” to spin the narrative. Even the smartest marketers fall for a good story.
