The 2024 US presidential election will be a pivotal event for the global economy and geopolitics. A Trump win in November is now our baseline forecast at Economist Intelligence: EIU. Our new Trump Risk Index (TRI) quantifies country exposure to a new US presidency across three areas of trade, security and immigration. The TRI shows that US allies and partners have among the highest overall exposure to policy changes under Mr Trump, as they have the deepest trade, security and cultural links with the US. Columbia University professor and foreign policy scholar/advisor Jeffrey Sachs provides a fascinating discussion on US foreign policy with Judge Andrew Napolitano on Judging Freedom yesterday (12/28/2023). Professor Sachs describes the Biden administration’s foreign policy as an “unimaginable disaster” and how it is isolating the United States from almost the entirety of the rest of the world. He describes US foreign policy over the past 25 years as a scam based on massive corruption. He explains how the US government has spent over $5 trillion on foreign military interventions since 9/11/2001 and every one of them has been a US foreign policy failure. He also describes neocon Senator Lindsay Graham as an “idiot” who’s foreign policy ideas have always been disastrous: #foreignpolicy #internationalrelations #worldaffairs #bidenadministration #usa #nato #un #eu #europe #ukraine #russia #russiaukrainewar #middleeast #israel #gaza #palestinians #iraq #iran #turkey

Great article. It outlines the geopolitical economic security threats of the USA despite the existence of the CIFIUS, CFI et al. I wonder what conclusions an article on European #geopolitical security would reach. Especially considering that we also lack capacities similar to those of CIFIUS, CFI... Ultimately, in a multipolar world with emerging powers, #multilateral #diplomacy is more important than ever befor to maintain balance… #dilpofoundation, #leadership
Hear, hear: Is today's public sector #interagency setup ready for the shift towards #economicsecurity? "The economic security powers of the United States reside largely in the U.S. Treasury and Commerce Departments, and the tools these agencies have can be potent. But the decision-making infrastructure that supports the use of these tools is not adequate for a period of great-power tension, in some cases having been designed to target terrorists after 9/11. As a result, the United States has effective tactical tools but often lacks the information and coordination needed for sound decision-making," writes Justin Muzinich, fmr Deputy US Treasury Secretary, in Foreign Affairs Magazine. https://lnkd.in/eaSvaBfj
