Thank goodness I've never faced this problem. My mother always told me that if I wanted to leave a job, I should find another one first. The other thing, I have learned on my own, is that every job has bad days and every job has annoying people so you will always have to deal with that, there is no way around that. There is no sense leaving a good job because someone annoys you, this will happen at your next job. If you have a really bad day and want to quit, take a day off or a week. Usually you will feel better and be ready to go back to work. It also helps to find someone to listen to you vent and provide suggestions. I think that is why I've been able to stay at the same job so long.
If I was let go, or the organization I work for closed, I would immediately begin with indeed. I've always worked for nonprofits and I am comfortable working at nonprofits. I enjoy working to help others, I don't think I would enjoy working to make widgets. I would also use my social network and let people know I'm looking for work.
Thankfully, due to dutiful savings, I could probably go a year without a job, but I would not want to do so. A new job would be exciting and moving would be interesting as well so I'm flexible and I think that helps a lot when considering employment.
