They did it! Hackney Night Shelter have hit and are exceeding their target of raising £50,000. I've just made our final donation from our Ticket Tailor donation matching campaign bringing our contribution up to £25,000.
I'm proud to share that we will have donated over £160,000 to a number of incredible charities in 2023 by the time the year is out.
£160,000 is a lot of money. We could have spent that on ads, right? We are a business, not a charity, not even a social enterprise, so why do we do this?
I believe it's important to take a broader view on stakeholders. It's not just shareholders, customers, and team. It's also community, society and planet. As a business we benefit tremendously from these things functioning in a positive way.
Whilst it's easy to ignore indirect stakeholders, or say that paying taxes should be enough, it is also incredibly exciting to think how much better the world could work if we retuned our expectations on businesses.
Is it as simple as businesses just giving money to charity? No not at all. For us, it makes sense and is part of the picture for how we think about the impact of our growth.
