📌 ICYMI: Revisiting CNS' "Beyond the Brain" Panel during SXSW! At our recent industry panel at the FINN Partners Future of Health Summit, we explored how emerging capabilities in #neurotechnology are transforming – and will continue to transform – our approach to mental health. We covered the potential for more accurate diagnoses, effective treatments and preventative tools as well as the untapped opportunities to translate a vast amount of groundbreaking research into novel, real-world solutions. We also touched on some of the critical challenges of bringing neurotechnology to widespread use and evolving ethical considerations that must be addressed. Tap the link to watch the full session >> https://lnkd.in/dbfgNVBw Big thanks to our moderator, Sharena Rice, PhD and panelists, Ruthi Aladjem (Corundum Neuroscience), Matias Serebrinsky (PsyMed Ventures) and Andreas Forsland (Cognixion) for contributing to this great discussion!

Excited to share a recent report from the Wellcome Trust on "Harnessing the Potential of Cellular, Animal, and Computational Neuroscience Models for Mental Health." Kudos to Xiaosi Gu, Rosalyn Moran, Deepak P. Srivastava, and Mark Walton for their amazing work! 🚀 https://lnkd.in/eXqb875T This has been a deep dive into literature and an extensive stakeholder interview exercise to explore the potential for cellular, animal and computational neuroscience models, individually and in combination, to make meaningful contributions to our understanding and early intervention of anxiety, depression, and psychosis. Some of the key findings and challenges identified in this report are: Challenge 1: How can we better combine these models to better understand mental health? Prioritizing symptom-focused back translation and involving patient experiences are key steps. Developing richer, ecologically-valid measures and harmonizing brain and body readouts will be vital in this journey. Challenge 2: How can these models help us predict, identify, and intervene early in mental health issues? The report suggests leveraging model variation and extending investigation timescales. Time is of the essence. ⌛️ Challenge 3: How can we create a sustainable and standardized scientific environment for these models to reach their full potential? The report stresses the importance of establishing community standards, accessible datasets, and the widespread use of state-of-the-art methods. I want to express my gratitude to all those involved in this important work (Malte Beringer Gemma Ruffino Cristina Doherty Matthew Brown). It's a significant step forward in the field of mental health and neuroscience. I'm looking forward to meaningful discussions and collaborations in this area. #MentalHealth #Neuroscience

Since Misophonia is a new disorder, research may go several different ways. Dr. Stephen Porges, who proposed “the Polyvagal Theory”, has been studying the relationship between sounds and our reactions to them. Along-side the IMRN, Dr. Porges has been conducting research that is influenced by Misophonia. Click here or the photo to learn more about Dr. Porges' Theory and listen to his full podcast on our website, youtube, or the Apple Store. The Polyvagal Theory (gr. 'polus', “‘many’” + 'vagal', "'Vagus Nerve'") was proposed and developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, Director of the Brain-Body Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The theory specifies two functionally distinct branches of the vagus, or tenth cranial nerve. The branches of the vagal nerve serve different evolutionary stress responses in mammals: the more primitive branch elicits immobilization behaviors (e.g., feigning death), whereas the more evolved branch is linked to social [Read More] https://lnkd.in/gpAT43ep
