Okay, so I'm a recruiter. It may seem counterintuitive for me to share an article about ways to AVOID working with someone like me, but that's what I'm doing today. This is a wonderful article by Jill Nowacki that highlights how credit unions (or any organization) can do a better job of nurturing talent within their own walls. #creditunions #dei #succession #successionplanning #recruitment #leadership https://lnkd.in/e83724cy

Credit unions face distinct challenges when it comes to hiring top talent: Competition with larger institutions: Credit unions often compete with larger banks and financial institutions that may offer higher salaries and more extensive benefits. Limited resources for recruitment and advertising can further exacerbate this challenge. Evolving skill requirements: The financial industry is continually evolving, with new technologies, regulations, and customer expectations shaping the skill sets required for success. Credit unions must adapt to these changes while ensuring they attract candidates with the necessary expertise and experience. Succession planning and talent development: Promoting from within and nurturing future leaders is a priority for many credit unions. However, identifying and grooming talent internally can be challenging, particularly in smaller credit unions with limited opportunities for advancement. Cultural fit and mission alignment: Credit unions often have a strong emphasis on community involvement, member service, and ethical banking practices. Finding candidates who align with these values while also possessing the required skills can be challenging. Limited recruitment resources: Credit unions may have fewer resources available for recruitment efforts, such as attending job fairs, advertising job openings, or using recruitment agencies. This can make it challenging to reach a wide pool of qualified candidates. To overcome these challenges, credit unions can focus on developing innovative recruitment strategies, investing in employee development and training programs, and building a strong employer brand to attract top talent. Additionally, fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace culture can help retain employees and promote long-term success.

Good refresher on recruiting tips in this competitive market. #4 is my fav and I think most employers could do better at defining, then highlighting your employee value proposition (EVP). Credit Unions have a LOT to offer, both to their members and employees. We should be marketing the heck out of that! #recruiting #recruitingtips #employeevalueproposition #creditunionjobs #creditunioncareers #creditunionsrock

The competition for acquisitions of banks is heating up. Why are credit unions interested in buying banks? What does it mean to you, your job, your career, and your company? The S&P article notes that 25 banks were bought by credit unions in the past two years. What is the biggest reason they're so interested in banks? The infrastructure of commercial lending. What does that mean for 2024? Commercial lending will become more competitive as more credit unions enter and/or expand into commercial lending. What does that mean to the job market? More comeptition for commercial lenders, not just from other banks, but also credit unions. Regardless of whether or not you're in commercial lending, your bank's or credit union's aggresiveness and willingness to compete in commercial lending is critical to their ability to grow. Are you in the right place for your job and career? Does your company have the right talent to compete? https://lnkd.in/gSn2Xp_B #bankingindustry #banks #banking #creditunions #creditunion #mergersacquisitionsdivestitures #mergersandacquisitions #merger #businessbanking #commerciallending #commercialfinance #job #career #careeradvancement #hiring

NatWest spoke to a large number of SME #LawFirms recently. 90% said their outlook was one of positivity with regards to revenue streams. That was despite their recognition of the UK and Global economic outlook over the coming months. Should we be using Law firms as the barometer for the general economy and job front? Historically banks were a crystal ball for six months ahead. When they were hiring things started looking up for employers across a number of markets and so too was the opposite. Banks have been a bit more erratic in recent years with individual corporations sometimes bucking the trend (and not always on a positive hiring front). Perhaps we should pay closer attention to Law Firms?

Existing as a research organization for the credit union industry over the past 35 years means that Filene has studied many challenging financial environments and provided credit unions guidance and innovations for how to manage levers to drive performance throughout them -- from the collapse of the dot-com bubble in the late 1990s, to the subprime mortgage crisis and U.S. housing bubble burst in the 2000s to the more recent economic effects of the pandemic. Filene's Center of Excellence for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, launched in early 2020 and led by Fellow Quinetta Roberson has been instrumental in guiding credit unions through challenging shifts in organizational culture, and insights on belonging and inclusion that have proven to drive business goals, support team members, and increase firm performance. We now share a new research brief expanding on Filene’s previous report on Employee Resource Groups from the employee perspective. By combining insights from both credit union leaders and employees, we offer practical strategies for enhancing the value and effectiveness of your ERGs through the business of belonging. One key credit union implication from the research is that when ERGs are well-aligned, they not only provide support, community, and professional development opportunities for their members, but they also contribute directly to organizational effectiveness and performance. With support from Rebecca Mitchell, PhD and Caitlin Q. Briggs, the full brief is now available for Filene members at: https://lnkd.in/edt5U-7d #35YearsofFilene
