"I was hired to ask intelligent, proper questions that portray the storyline of the game and bring out the best moment out of the person I’m interviewing for the fans to have the best context of what they’re watching."
Every March, covering basketball becomes a full-court press for Allie LaForce. The sideline reporter switches mid-season from the NBA on TNT to the NCAA Tournament for Turner Sports. With the Field of 68 beginning play next week, we thought it would be a great time to catch up with LaForce.

ON CREATIVE NONFICTION
I want to invite those of you who read my post yesterday to read it again today and see if you notice any of my little editing tweaks to enhance and improve the story....
Meanwhile, a few words on what makes this creative nonfiction despite the little changes I've made in the storytelling. In this genre, some degree of literary license is taken to shape the narrative and serve the story while still maintaining the essence of truth. The genre allows for artistic expression and storytelling techniques to make the narrative more engaging and impactful. However, there are ethical considerations and limits to how much factual accuracy can be changed without crossing into the realm of fiction.
Creative nonfiction is rooted in real events, people, and experiences, and it should strive to present an honest and authentic account of those elements. Writers often change names, combine characters, adjust the chronology of events, or employ other narrative devices to enhance the story's flow and coherence. These changes are considered acceptable as long as they do not alter the essential truth or misrepresent the core facts of the story.
In creative nonfiction, the writer should aim to capture the emotional truth and deeper insights into the real-life events rather than adhering strictly to a literal retelling of every detail. The key is to remain faithful to the spirit and meaning of the events while exercising creative freedom in the presentation.
However, if significant factual elements are altered to the point where the central truth or integrity of the story is compromised, it may no longer be considered creative nonfiction but rather fiction based on true events. In such cases, writers should consider labeling their work as historical fiction or a novel inspired by real-life events to avoid misleading readers about the level of factual accuracy.
In summary, creative nonfiction allows for some degree of creative interpretation, but it should remain grounded in truth and honesty. Writers can modify certain elements to enhance the narrative flow and storytelling, but they should avoid distorting or misrepresenting essential facts to maintain the integrity of the genre.
