What “Positive Thinking” is really about… Not many people understand this. They seem to believe that positive thinking is all about being “mush-cooky” and not being angry… “If someone slaps you in the face then turn the other cheek.” They say Absolutely not. That is not what positive thinking is about… It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t indulge in negative emotions. It means you should use negative emotions or experiences as fuel for advancement, instead of as an excuse for regression. Said in another way— It means you should use your own ability to think to your absolute advantage (i.e. positively). And sometimes the best way to do this is by using negative emotions - as fuel… For example: I told the story about the construction jog that I had (and absolutely hated) at 16-years-old. And how this drives me further in biznizz… There were many things I hated about that job experience that I won’t go into here… But the glaring point is: Instead of acting like a victim and feeling sorry for myself while speaking that I hated my employer… I use that experience and those emotions as fuel to push me harder. Now, that is positive thinking… (Since I’m using my own ability to frame and think about my experiences to serve instead of cripple me) Whereas… If I simply sat around feeling sorry for myself and blaming my employer, I would be thinking negatively (i.e. using my own ability to think against myself.) If you’re sitting around watching motivational videos, for example, and “visualising” while not taking action on your goals, then I’m sorry to say but you’re an extremely negative thinker (or person.) The worst of them all… Why? Because the only reason you aren’t taking action is because you’re lying to yourself in some way and… again … using your own ability to think to your disadvantage. Day 43 of 366 - If it doesn’t align with your goals and purpose, leave it alone. Bob, Alice, and Mandy gathered in the office kitchen for breakfast. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the clatter of cutlery filled the air. Bob, trying to spread cream cheese on his bagel, looked up with a distracted expression. "You know, guys, I've been struggling to stay focused lately. There are so many distractions, and it's affecting my productivity." Alice nodded in agreement, sipping her coffee. "I caught myself scrolling through social media for way too long yesterday. It's like our attention is constantly pulled in a million directions." Mandy, carefully measuring cereal into her bowl, chimed in, "It's essential to prioritize and stay focused on what truly matters. If it doesn't align with your goals and purpose, leave it alone." Bob raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Goals and purpose, huh? How do you figure out what's worth your attention?" Mandy took a thoughtful bite of her cereal before responding, "Well, it starts with knowing what you want to achieve and understanding your values. Once you have that clarity, it becomes easier to filter out distractions and stay on track." Mandy added, "Don't be afraid to say no to things that don't align with your goals. It's all about maintaining focus on what truly matters." Stressed? When I feel stressed, like major almost disabling stress, I can often trace it back to me having way too much noise in my life. That statement says so much about me as an introvert who can be an extrovert when needed. How do I start quieting the noise? I unsubscribe from the ads, special offer, and fun ways to spend my money emails. What does that do? Decision fatigue is real. Unsubscribing quiets the bombardment of ads! I don’t have to think about making a decision about purchasing something that I probably don’t need right now. If I need it, I know how to find it! Attention, People Pleasers! 🚨 Saying "No" is tough; our instincts drive us to please and conform. But, not saying "No" risks giving away our precious resource—time. Here's how to gracefully say "No" and reclaim control: 1/ "Let Me Check My Calendar And Get Back To You" Prevent impulsive yes moments: Take a moment to consider your availability. Gives time to respond thoughtfully: Respond at your own pace after evaluating your schedule. 2/ The Soft "No" (Or The "No But") Offer a small concession or suggest a better time: Soften the refusal with a compromise. Example: "Busy with my book now, but let's meet in X month." 3/ Automatic Email Replies Set boundaries with automatic replies: Inform others of your availability without immediate responses. Effective when quick responses aren't crucial: Use when time allows for a more considered reply. 4/ "I can't do it, but X might be interested" Redirect requests to someone else: Politely decline while offering an alternative contact. Example: "Happy to prioritize this. Which project should I deprioritize?" 5/ "You are welcome to X. I am willing to Y." Partial support for requests: Grant partial assistance without committing fully. Example: "You can borrow my car; keys are here, but I won't be able to drive you." 6/ The Awkward Pause Use silence strategically: Take a moment of pause before responding. Count to 3 before responding or let the other person reconsider: Allow space for reflection. For all the People Pleasers out there, saying "No" doesn't have to be uncomfortable or confrontational. By employing these graceful techniques, you can protect your time and assert control over your commitments without sacrificing relationships. Turning off your phone, closing your email, and finding a quiet area to work are all examples of this. - Delay: If you can't get rid of a distraction, postpone it. This entails setting apart time to check your email or social media later. - Deflect: If you can't avoid or postpone a distraction, deflect it. This entails figuring out how to deal with the distraction without allowing it to disrupt your concentration. -Accept: If you can't avoid, postpone, or deflect a distraction, accept it.
