Are you familiar with electric shock drowning (ESD)? I wasn't either. That is very concerning to me because I should have been. I had been an electrician for over 30 years in Michigan, the state with the most freshwater shoreline in the world, and had never heard of ESD before I became an employee at NFPA in 2020. As a family, we spend our summers on the water, but up until four years ago I didn't know how to protect them from ESD or that I even needed to. If you aren't familiar with ESD, I implore you to read my latest blog on the topic. By doing so, I hope you learn how to protect yourself and others from ESD. I thank you in advance for spreading that message to others, especially over the upcoming 4th of July weekend where so many will spend it on the water. https://lnkd.in/eSpiy5mu #summer #marinas #watersafety #swimming #electricity #electricalsafety #electricshockdrowning #ESD #boatersafety #July4 #4thofJuly #holidayweekend #boating #NFPA #drowning #drown #lakelife #lakes #boating
There have sadly been a few deaths related to ESD in my state the last few years. That was one motivating factor into becoming an inspector. But its also something I’d like figure out how to advocate for it more in my state.
Thank you Corey… I had no idea!

2wIt's not very common in the US mainland compared to overseas. However, I have done a few investigations on county marine electrical incidents.
