Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, holds profound significance for Corenic Construction as an African American owned construction company. It commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Texas were finally informed of their freedom, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. This day symbolizes liberation, resilience, and the ongoing struggle for equality. For Corenic Construction, Juneteenth is a reminder of the contributions and achievements of African Americans in building and shaping the nation, often in the face of systemic barriers. It serves as an opportunity to honor the legacy of African American builders and tradespeople who paved the way, acknowledging both the progress made and the challenges that remain. Embracing Juneteenth within the company culture can involve recognizing the historical context, celebrating African American heritage, and committing to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. This might include educational programs, community service, and fostering a supportive environment that uplifts African American employees and partners. Ultimately, Juneteenth for Corenic Construction is a day to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and work towards a future where equality and opportunity are accessible to all.

At HKC Construction, we believe that progress is rooted in unity and understanding. Today, as we commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we stand together with our Indigenous communities to acknowledge the pain and suffering caused by the residential school system. As we reflect on this important day, we would like to share the significance of the artwork chosen to represent the diverse Indigenous cultures of Canada. The eagle symbolizes the First Nations, the narwhal represents the Inuit, and the beaded flower pays homage to the Métis. In this powerful image, the circle at the center reminds us that we are all part of the circle of humanity, and it embodies the spirit of reconciliation. The vibrant orange color signifies truth-telling and healing, reminding us of the importance of acknowledging the painful truths of the past to pave the way for a brighter future. The pathway depicted in the artwork represents our collective journey towards reconciliation, and it's a path we walk together, hand in hand. This National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, let us remember that "every child matters." It is our shared responsibility to create a just and inclusive society where the voices of Indigenous peoples are heard and their stories are acknowledged. At HKC Construction, we are committed to fostering an environment of respect, inclusion, and understanding. Together, we can build a stronger, more equitable future for all. 🌟 #NationalDayforTruthandReconciliation #EveryChildMatters #ReconciliationInProgress #IndigenousCulture #Unity #Respect

The RAIC - IRAC acknowledges the profound connection of Canada's colonial history and its impact on First Nations. To promote reconciliation, the RAIC instituted the Indigenous Task Force in 2016 and the Truth & Reconciliation Task Force in 2020. Honoring Murray Sinclair with the 2024 RAIC Gold Medal reflects the profession's recognition of architecture's transformative power in promoting reconciliation, social justice, and a more inclusive built environment. https://lnkd.in/epxsQjX2

It's now great to see, a little over a year from starting the discussions with Center for Innovation, that a group of Ukrainians can follow up DOBROBAT-CFI July event in Kyiv with a meet-up in the USA. #Ukraine was invaded 20 February 2014. 9 years, 10 months and 2 days ago. Feb 2022, when my friends in Kyiv woke up to the sounds of missile explosions, many experts gave Ukraine 96 hours. The people of this great country have been extending the initial 96 hours into ~700 days with the help of Western countries, primarily with financial and military support. Ukrainians were not asking for troops, just the weapons they could fight with, and the world answered. Similarly, the #construction industry in Ukraine is asking the Western #AEC industry to contribute by sharing the know-how for the best practices of #construction so they can rebuild Ukraine beyond the initial replacement of broken windows, fixing damaged roofs, and clearing walkways. Dobrobat started by helping Armed Forces of Ukraine make de-occupied territories liveable for the local residents. Nothing fancy--replace broken windows, fix damaged roofs, clear walkways. Local residents take non-military tasks off their hands so the warriors can focus on freeing the rest of their land. The battalion of the "kindness" DOBRO-BAT. I can't wait to see my friends Dean Reed, Andrii Lakshtanov and many more working through many much-needed topics together in January.
You may be wondering why this photo of San Francisco's Union Square has a Ukrainian headline with holiday greetings.... I shared this photo earlier this week with the 12 Ukrainian members of parliament, mayors, architects, and builders joining the Center for Innovation and DOBROBAT in San Francisco for a 10-day study trip to learn advanced means and methods of construction from January 19-29. We have been overwhelmed by the amazing generosity of our community in welcoming this group. Special thanks are due to so many, but, in particular: Sharon Prince, Trimble Inc., Marc Benioff, Zigmund Rubel, FAIA David Wessel, AIC, FAPT, Dean Reed, Stuart Eckblad, Troy Thompson AIA LEED AP, Andrii Lakshtanov, Martin Fischer, Ashley Archie, Susan Fassberg, Tiany Galaskas, Tuyet Le, and April Willoughby.

The construction industry has the power to uplift neighborhoods, create opportunities, and foster economic growth. However, true progress can only be achieved when we are inclusive and reflective of the communities we serve.
