Recent Airbus reports highlight the risks of inappropriate V/S targets during autoflight mode reversion (stored value), causing unintended pitch-down commands after an Interception From Above Procedure followed by a Go-Around. As a reference to the Airbus Golden Rules, the main takeaways for the flight crew include: 1- Understanding Autoflight Behavior: Mode reversion can retain previously selected V/S values, leading to unexpected aircraft behavior. 2- Vigilance with Flight Mode Annunciator (FMA): Always monitor the FMA for mode changes and unexpected guidance. 3- Timely Interventions: Be ready to manually take control if the aircraft behaves unexpectedly. 4- System Enhancements: Airbus is introducing updates to reset V/S or FPA preselected values to prevent such incidents. #AviationSafety #FlightGuidance #Autoflight #Airbus #PilotTraining #Aviation #FlightOperations #SafetyEnhancements #AviationIndustry #AircraftSystems

"One of the most interesting developments is the declining cost of advanced flight control systems—autopilots—and how some are nearly morphing into fly-by-wire controls. This ultimately will make flying easier and will enable more people to become safe pilots without the enormous training burden that today’s pilots must endure. The technical term for this is simplified vehicle operations (SVO), and it has applications in all segments of aviation, especially upcoming advanced air mobility (AAM) aircraft." #avionicsinnovation #avionics #innovation #aerospacetechnology #futureofaviation #honeywell #flightsafety #pilottraining #aircraftdesign #autopilot #advancedairmobility #artificialintelligence https://lnkd.in/dn3HbHtR

The cockpit is the control centre of an aircraft, where pilots command and navigate the plane. Equipped with all necessary instruments and controls, it’s crucial for flight operations. Fun fact: Modern cockpits are designed with advanced technology, often called "glass cockpits," featuring digital displays instead of traditional dials and gauges. This innovation enhances pilot efficiency and safety. #MHICA #MHICanada #OntarioAerospace #Aviation #OntarioAerospaceIndustry

Future of avionics in BIZAV #Airframe & engine design hasn’t changed much in the past decades & likely won’t progress dramatically in the near #future either. The design of #avionics & the way #pilots control the increasingly electronic #aircraft they #fly, however, are on a rapid pace of advancement. One of the most interesting developments is the declining cost of advanced flight control systems—autopilots—& how some are nearly morphing into fly-by-wire controls. Honeywell Anthem platform is exploring concepts such as automatic setting of barometric pressure via voice control & combinations of touchscreens & physical controls. Universal Avionics has completed initial flight testing of its software-based interactive flight management system, the goal is for use in all phases of flight when flying in civilian airspace without special air traffic control handling. Collins Aerospace with its “Perception sensing” involves sensors that, in the future, will help the #pilot & the aircraft make sence of what’s going on in the outside world, like image recognition so the aircraft can detect & avoid non-cooperative traffic. Thales Aerospace has developed PureFlyt, a connected FMS that is linked to non-avionics systems such as electronic flight bags & operational control centres that can take advantage of real-time weather information, helping pilots optimise their #flight trajectory. Garmin includes electronic stability & protection (ESP) in autopilots, emergency descent mode for business jets, Autoland for single-pilot airplanes, Smart Rudder Bias to help with engine failure in multiengine #airplanes, & Smart Glide to guide airplanes automatically to a suitable airport in case of engine failure. Avidyne is also working with companies on integrated avionics systems with #AI incorporated into avionics in new electric aircraft. Genesys Aerosystems, a Moog Inc. company, sees key avionics developments in the modularity of systems. This means we will see larger displays with more software features & more functionality built into existing avionics. The next 10 years seems like there’s going to be way more innovation in avionics within #business #aviation. #Businessjet’s are awesome! #bizav #bizjet https://lnkd.in/d-KW-eFn

Approach Phase on MCDU Airbus A320-214. I inserted QNH, Wind data, Temperature from EFB and Baro data of from charts. What is Approach Phase on MCDU? The "Approach Phase" on the MCDU (Multifunction Control and Display Unit) of an Airbus aircraft refers to a phase of flight during which the aircraft is preparing for and executing the approach and landing procedures at its destination airport. During the Approach Phase, the MCDU provides pilots with various tools and information necessary for a safe approach and landing. This includes inputs for configuring the aircraft's systems, such as setting the approach speed, configuring the autopilot and autothrust modes, inputting the approach and landing data (such as runway information, weather conditions, and approach procedure), and managing navigation and communication frequencies. The MCDU also assists pilots in following the prescribed approach procedure, which may involve vertical and lateral navigation guidance provided by the aircraft's flight management system (FMS) or autopilot.

The aviation industry sits at a critical point in terms of the level of acceptance and adoption of Simplified Vehicle Operations, in terms of automation, workload management, autopilot systems, remote control & monitoring, reduced crew operations, and safety - across all modes and types of air transport and operations. Aviation International News provide a summary of the key developments and design philosophies from the major avionics manufacturers: Honeywell, Universal Avionics, Collins Aerospace, Thales, Garmin, Avidyne, and Genesys Aerosystems (Moog Inc.). I find it helpful to ask a simple question when considering the scope, benefit, and implementation of new avionics technologies - as a pilot and as a passenger. Does it provide a superior (or at least equivalent) level of safety to current systems? https://lnkd.in/ghy_R2PT #airtravel #airtransport #pilottraining #aerospace #aviation #aviationsafety

Keeping flight simulators up-to-date is an ongoing challenge that requires diligent effort. In our latest blog post, we revisit this critical topic, drawing from our extensive experience and the insights shared nearly ten years ago at the Royal Aeronautical Society's 2014 conference on "Keeping Flight Simulators Current & Capable." From aircraft systems databases and ground station data to visual models and airworthiness directives, numerous aspects demand regular updates to maintain realism and compliance. Our blog categorizes these elements, highlights the importance of robust processes, and offers practical advice on managing updates effectively through active engagement with manufacturers and robust monitoring systems. https://lnkd.in/gEQkDYRS #FlightSimulation #AviationTraining #PilotTraining #SimOps
