Today's MedComms Pro Question: "When requesting to reuse a figure in a new article being submitted to a new journal, we are often asked to provide a circulation number of the new journal. How can we provide this information to get an accurate quote and avoid over or underpaying?" #WorldBookDay Also known as World Book and Copyright Day or International Day of the Book, is an annual event organized by UNESCO to promote reading, publishing, and copyright. The first World Book Day was celebrated on 23rd April, 1995, and continues to be recognized on that day. It is a symbolic date in world literature as it is the date on which several prominent authors, #WilliamShakespeare, #MigueldeCervantes and #IncaGarcilasodelaVega all died. #WBD #literature #copyright

You may read a book front to back, cover to cover, and still miss the title verso. But not Richard Charkin, because that’s where he starts reading. Title verso – by law and by tradition, every book you read will have one. “Verso” is Latin for reverse. The title verso is the text behind the title page, including always an ISBN catalog number, sometimes the publisher’s name and contact information, and occasionally details on printing history and typesetting. Critically for Richard Charkin, however, the title verso is where to find who is the copyright holder. In the latest Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) podcast, Charkin tells me why these three words are so important to authors and to publishers. “All rights reserved means all rights reserved. It’s incredibly powerful,” he says. “The fact that it’s only three words makes it more powerful than the 100-page documents you see as contracts in some cases. All rights reserved – it means all rights reserved, and rights means all media. It means everything. Of course, the publisher of that edition may not have all rights in that book. The author does, which is why I say I think in a way, it’s more important for the author.” Listen to the complete interview https://lnkd.in/e_BJn_79 #allrightsreserved #titleverso #copyright #publishing International Publishers Association - IPA The Publishers Association Bloomsbury Publishing Plc

Journal Publishing Expert, Specialization in Indexing/Abstracting, Memberships, Open Access, Marketing, International Publication Standards
In an open-access journal with a CC-BY license, the copyrights typically remain with the authors of the individual articles. The CC-BY license allows others to freely share, adapt, and build upon the work, even commercially, as long as they give appropriate credit to the original author(s) for the creation. So, in this case, authors retain the copyrights to their contributions, and users are granted broad permissions to use the work, subject to proper attribution. This aligns with the principles of open access, promoting the free exchange of knowledge and information. #openaccess #creativecommons #journalpublishing #copyright

Copylaw: Literary Lawyer | Book Publishing Attorney: Registrability of Names and Pseudonyms of Authors: Author names can be registered with the USPTO for protection and opening doors to Amazon's Brand Registry. However, the name must be seen as a mark for literary services. Personal names and pseudonyms can be registered if used on a series of works and if there is evidence that the name identifies the source of the series. If not, the mark can be registered on the Supplemental Register. Personal names can also be used as service marks if they identify and distinguish the services provided. Using a pseudonym is also an option when registering a manuscript with the US Copyright Office. - IP topics: Intellectual Property topics! #ip #intellectualproperty #copyright
