EVENT SAFETY AND SECURITY Major #event #security is an ever-more critical and complex practice.  As more nations take up the challenge of hosting the world’s biggest sporting and live events, there has never been a greater need to share knowledge and experience in the safety and security field.   “Major event security is not an area for trial and error. It is our duty to ensure that the most effective practices for hosting these events in a secure way are thoroughly analyzed and widely shared.” Ultimately, whilst all events are very different, one thing always remains same.   In all countries, in all sports and in all events every person has a natural basic need for security and feel safe and secure.   All visitors, delegates, athletes, teams, talent and fans want to feel safe and secure, to be able to enjoy the event.   Of course the organizers also have an interest in a safely managed event. Not only for their reputation, but also for financial reasons, given the escalating value of marketing and TV-rights. However, security should not become an end in itself. Organising Committees must guarantee the highest possible security, whilst being mindful that people’s right to freedom should be affected as little as possible. The main guideline should be maximum security with minimum restrictions - as much security as required, with as few restrictions as possible.  Always in the background, security should not affect fans, athletes, spectators, talents enjoyment or participation in sporting and live events. Finally, a holistic, integrated approach is essential towards achieving a positive security legacy and one that is characterised by harmony, balance and the smooth synchronisation of balance between threat levels, security contingency, response and coordination between multiple stakeholders and agencies whilst securing the event and at the same time delivering a lasting memorable experience for all that attend or are involved.    Live Nation APAC Live Nation Entertainment Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Football Australia National Rugby League World Rugby Rugby Australia Mark Carrick Chris NCS⁴ Southern Miss. Some great points Andrew Cooke and especially the need to underpin the activities by the patron experience. As we have said before, balancing the needed security elements , customer experience and the event commercial outcomes is very nuanced and doesn’t happen by accident

Andrew Cooke well said. And when all else fails, use common sense being guided by the over arching holistic approach to security for that event.
