We had a fantastic time participating in CVP’s Summer Kit Fest this week! It was a pleasure welcoming so many of you to Cooke London to explore our gallery’s ‘focus’ exhibition, our test space where we showcased a variety of Cooke glass and our new Blackmagic editing suite. The heartfelt comedy ‘We Are Lady Parts’ has recently released its second season, following a British punk band of Muslim women navigating relationships and their quest for musical success. The series is gaining momentum, thanks in part to the stunning cinematography by Diana Olifirova. Cooke Insight: Rodrigo Prieto, ASC, AMC - Energy Rodrigo Prieto, ASC, AMC is a four-time Oscar nominated cinematographer. He is well known for his work with Martin Scorsese on The Wolf of Wall Street, Silence and The Irishman. In this clip, he discusses his work on The Irishman, a film in which they utilised Panchro/i Classic lenses. Shot on Cooke, Showcase, was devised as “a gallery for you by you”. The premise is simple. To give a platform to support interesting, innovative and visually striking material that cinematographers feel they have accomplished through the use of Cooke lenses. This week we have Kum Zambağı, the second feature film from cinematographer Christophe Carcelle. Christophe chose Cooke panchro/i Classic FF lenses on this project stating “The Cooke lenses, with their T/2.2 apertures, subtle yet visually appealing flares, and delicate softness at the edges of subjects, were perfect for capturing both magic hour scenarios and single-light night interiors.“ His testimony and a short clip of the film is available via this link: https://bit.ly/4f2xGb7

With the 152 nd golf Open Championship starting tomorrow, we are celebrating one of the pioneers of golf ball design: William Taylor, co-founder of Cooke. Taylor's dedication to precision was first showcased in the late 19th century with the creation of Cooke lenses, he also however played a pivotal role in the evolution of golf ball technology, by inventing the dimpled golf ball. Based on the original story by Eileen Zhang, ‘Sealed Off’ was adapted into a short film by director John Jiang and shot by cinematographer Yichuan Huang. The story is set in 1930s Shanghai, depicting a relationship between a teacher and an accountant during an unexpected air-raid. John Jiang and Yichuan Huang chose Cooke Anamorphic/i FF SF lenses for the film to aid in creating the sharp yet vintage look they were after. We spoke to the pair about their experience using the lenses and it was a pleasure hearing their thoughts.
