🚄 Revamping the Connecticut River Bridge: A $1.3 Billion Game-Changer for Amtrak and Northeast Corridor Rail Amtrak has initiated a transformative project by commissioning O&G Industries, Inc., and Tutor Perini to replace the aging Connecticut River Bridge, a key link between Old Saybrook and Old Lyme, Conn. This $1.3-billion endeavor, scheduled to start later this year, promises enhanced reliability and capacity for intercity, commuter, and freight services in the Northeast Corridor. Key highlights of the project: - New Two-Track Crossing: Located just south of the existing bridge, featuring a modern movable span. - Increased Speed and Clearance: The new structure will support train speeds up to 70 mph (a 55% increase) and provide an additional 6 ft of vertical clearance for maritime traffic. - Extended Service Life: Designed to last 150 years. The project is backed by an $826.64-million FRA grant and additional funding from Amtrak and the State of Connecticut. Hardesty & Hanover led the design, with AECOM as the construction manager. This significant upgrade is part of a broader effort to modernize the Northeast Corridor, enhancing travel efficiency and reliability for years to come. #Infrastructure #Railway #Amtrak #NortheastCorridor #EngineeringInnovation

Network Rail, the national infrastructure agency for #GreatBritain, plans to replace the #CastletonBridge this Autumn. That is earlier than usual notice, but this engineering work in the northwest of #England could be a huge imposition on the transport infrastructure of the entire region. #NetworkRail is investing more than twenty million pounds (over 23 million euros) in rebuilding the major railway bridge that takes trains over a highway vital to the entire North of England. #railfreight #railfreightnews #railcargonews

Big news! The Federal Railroad Administration Railroad Administration has awarded Amtrak an unprecedented nearly $10 billion in federal funding that will help transform the Northeast Corridor (NEC) and your future travel experience. These grants will support work to: ✔️ Replace aging tunnels, bridges and tracks ✔️ Improve safety, reliability and travel speeds ✔️ Expand capacity for more trains and riders ✔️ Modernize America’s busiest rail corridor These grants will help advance our plans to modernize the NEC and unlock major bottlenecks on America’s busiest rail corridor. We want to thank President Biden, USDOT Secretary Pete Buttigieg and FRA Administrator Amit Bose for their continued support as Amtrak and our partners rebuild this critical asset. With this funding, we’re not just rebuilding; we’re continuing our mission of delivering a new era of rail for you, our customers, stakeholders and employees. . . . . . . #rail #railway #railways #railindustry #railwayindustry #rails #railcybersecurity #railsafety #railwayinfrastructure #railtransport #railwaysystems #railwaysafety #india #indianrailways #railwaystation Amtrak Renfe Alstom Thales Transport CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles) Hyundai Rotem Kawasaki Rail Car Talgo CRRC Corporation Ltd. #rollingstock #metro #tramway #supplychain #procurement #procuror

Higher demand for more traffic, speed, and weight on existing railway tracks requires innovative solutions. The Federal Railroad Administration of the US and Amtrak held a long-term study to determine a way to create a long-lasting rail structure while reducing the construction times & costs... The result: The PRS-Neoloy System's Engineering & Tough Cell Solution allows us to accomplish this goal. The studies conclude: – 20-60% construction cost reduction – 30-70% less construction time – 685% longer maintenance cycles Comment if you are a Rail Engineer #railways #engineering #infrastructure #geotechnicalengineering

More penalties or additional impact structures are not the solution - LSM BridgeSense® / TrainSense™ (int. pat. pend) technology technology's are not Apps or a Route Planning website- but a small inexpensive (like a toll tag) device that requires no other Driver intervention when truck / load height, mass and dimensions are added into the device. Driver alerts are also provided for Road Hazards such as on approaching Level Rail Crossings, Over / Under Bridges, Tunnels, etc. #lsmbridgesense, #bridgeengineering #bridgesense #bridgeimpact #bridgedesign #bridges #bridgeimpact #bridgecollision #teamlsm #railwaysafety #technology #innovation #creativity

📌 This is really impressive. Managing construction activities within an operational rail network presents significant challenges. Any construction work in such a situation is subject to a potential prolonged delivery times and delays. ℹ️ The bridge in question appears to be positioned directly above an active rail line. So, what's the best course of action❓ ✅️ Maintain rail operations, construct the bridge, and then transition it later!
