Comment period extended on two impactful irrigation-related proposals The comment period for the WaterSense draft specification for spray sprinkler nozzles was extended to March 1. The public comment periods for two impactful irrigation-related proposals have been extended following requests by the Irrigation Association, Fairfax, Virginia.   The comment period for the California Energy Commission’s Landscape Irrigation Controllers Proposed Standards was extended to Feb. 7.   “We’re pleased that our request for extension has been granted,” says Nathan Bowen, Irrigation Association advocacy and public affairs vice president. “Both proposals will impact the irrigation industry in significant ways. This additional time allows us to more thoroughly review the proposals on the WaterSense draft specification for spray sprinkler nozzles and the California Energy Commission’s Landscape Irrigation Controllers Proposed Standards. It will enable us to provide more robust and comprehensive input.”  The WaterSense specification would establish the criteria for landscape irrigation spray sprinkler nozzles to earn a label under EPA’s WaterSense program. It applies to spray sprinkler nozzles as applicable under the American Society of Agricultural Biological Engineers/International Code Council 802 Landscape Irrigation Sprinkler and Emitter Standard.   “The WaterSense label is an important tool that helps consumers make informed choices that conserve water,” says Bowen. “But it is also imperative that the specifications are based on sound science, robust data and industry best practices.”
