What would you do if you had a chance to win the Olympics, but if you went for it you also had a chance of crashing yourself out of the race, your teammate out of the race, or the worst case of all...crash both of you out of the race, and now YOU are the reason the U.S. went from Gold-Silver sweep...to nothing. Front page of the New York Times would say "Fields Blows U.S. Sweep" Would you risk it all for the Gold? Or would you settle for the silver? Oh...and you have 3 seconds to make the decision. When I was faced with this predicament in the Olympic final I knew exactly what I was going to do. That's because it was programmed into every single thing I did in preparation. Every single day was spent focusing on being the ABSOLUTE best I could be. Striving for perfection. Going for that extra tenth. Never settling for good enough. How you spend each and every day is subconsciously programming your decision making process in high pressure, time sensitive environments. You want the gold? Go for it every single day.
Your blessed, iam very happy you won gold ! Winning gold in the bmx Olympics, changed your life for the better. Think about that . Steve Gavin Retired pro bmx racer

1moThis is the part that we as spectators didn’t see. I saw Nick holeshot and lead it down the first straight with Connor in second. USA 1&2, Gold and Silver. I actually gasped when he pedaled through the air and then you passed. To see you cross with the Gold was a highlight for me. Partially as an American watching and American win in the sport I love, but also because I watched you grow up in this sport and saw you progress for good to better to great to greatest. It’s a moment I will never forget. Now I know what was going through your mind. Awesome!!
