bp's months-long search for a new CEO could be drawing to a close, but no matter who wins the top spot, questions about the leadership and direction of the company following the abrupt departure of Bernard Looney will linger. The decision has the potential to resonate beyond the company itself, as Looney was a leading proponent of a "Big #Energy" strategy that sought to aggressively grow new energy businesses while shrinking its #oilandgas portfolio, even under pared-down plans. With BP's board having to manage this disruption of yet another premature exit at the CEO slot, industry sources suggest strategic continuity is the top priority. But such limitations around the CEO's remit are cooling outside interest in the job, leading many to expect an internal candidate -- including interim CEO Murray Auchincloss -- to be the most likely outcome.
