It kills me how many brilliant and innovative ideas and products have never been brought to this world simply because women and girls are still under-valued or supported or funded. Time to create a feminine principles, female-brain designed infrastructure. This old competitive, hierarchical system eliminates girls early. We have solutions, and do them better in collaboration, cooperation, and community. Here’s to our GLEAC pending patents and to all inventors and innovators around us . Only 4% of patents are filed by women as sole inventors ( I am proud to be in that 4%) ...it's nuts when you think about how creative women are. Why? I think it has to do with the lack of confidence in our ideas, not taking credit for our work , undervaluing our projects /worth/innovations ++++ Why do you think this number is so low? It feels so similar to the no of women who get VC funded.

Working with inventors over the years, I learned that few were women, and even fewer were people of color. Eighty percent, in fact, of our clients are white males. While I applaud their successes, I wonder where the rest of the population is. While income and gender don’t determine intelligence, without access, exposure and education, an inventor may not even know where to start. On May 1, the US Patent Office launched the “National Strategy for Inclusive Innovation,” an initiative that aims to increase innovation among people from historically underrepresented and underresourced communities. Did you ever hear about "Lady Edison"? No, she wasn't the wife of Thomas Edison. Her actual name was Beulah Louise Henry, a remarkable inventor who held over 100 patents. Her innovations include revolutionary bobbin-free sewing machine, a cutting-edge vacuum ice cream freezer, and even a doll that featured adjustable limbs. Another notable inventor is Margaret E. Knight, an American innovator often hailed as the originator of the flat-bottomed paper bag. But her contributions extended further—she ingeniously developed a machine capable of mass-producing these bags, thereby sparking a transformation in the packaging industry itself. Speaking of inventiveness and the power of ideas, I recently had the privilege of attending the #KodewithKlossy event hosted at the LinkedIn SouthBay HQ. Kode With Klossy is a free coding camp for girls aged 13-18 that takes place across the United States. The encounter left me in awe as I crossed paths with brilliant minds. Witnessing their passion to create, their drive for progress, and their sheer enthusiasm for growth was truly inspiring. The privilege of connecting with these young and dynamic individuals is something I'm profoundly grateful for.
