Data center solutions and service provider landscape for corporates, and thus concomitant supply chain/third party risks, are only set to grow and accelerate in coming years. The cloud hyperscalers– Amazon, Microsoft, Google - continue to pull in record revenues thanks to more and more corporates undertaking the journey to cloud. According to Bain, however, spending on in house data centers and related services is not insignificant at more than $100 billion in 2022, and expected to grow, as more firms generating IoT data look to inhouse data center solutions. This is due to a host of different reasons: computing at the “edge”, higher performance, data security/confidentiality especially those that are used to train AI models, and data sovereignty considerations. With this trend, one can expect reliance on data services solutions and services providers to only increase – corporates have a range of options: they can source modular data centers, rent compute, bring their own machines to a rented facility etc. This will also bring a host of different risks to the corporates: cyber, financial and catastrophic/business continuity risks being the big ones. With climate change, ESG risk and sustainability considerations in data center services sourcing, especially GHG/Scope 3 emissions, will become increasingly important. Corporates, especially those with heavy reliance on the industrial Internet and IoT and focus on inhouse data center solutions should adopt a sound third-party/outsourcing risk informed data center strategy. #computing #datacenters #risk #thirdpartyrisk #outsourcing https://lnkd.in/gDUvfrhu

I watched the VM Cloud Foundation Live: The Economics of the Cloud Operating Model by VMware featuring Peter Flecha and Andrew Nielsen! I greatly enjoyed listening to this, it got me thinking about how VMware can help with big data analytics. I did more research about the features within VMware.
